Well if you're not a fan of inversions then off course you're bound to think it's nothing greatBeing the best high inversion coaster doesn’t stop it being an average experience overall.

I think the smiler is the perfect crowd pleaser. Given its world record its the true gimmick of the park, not to say that's a bad thing though. They know that any record breaking ride will undoubtedly draw big crowds and with the amount of restrictions placed upon the park due to the location, it was the only ever logistical option. Can't build above a certain height, can't build the fastest as there isnt enough room, can't build the steepest when they already have a vertical drop. Inversions was the only option and given the space I think Wardley and everyone else involved did a fantastic job with the layoutI'd rather sit on a park bench than ride Colossus.
I don't rank coasters, but given the choice, without the travel logistics, I'd take 100 different coasters over Smiler in terms of the experience overall. Going upside down for the sake of it is not interesting. You only have to walk from X Sector to Forbidden Valley to see what fun you can have, with ten less inversions.
Because if he was a fan of inversions then he would rate the ride a lot higher. Its not a repetitive layout unlike Colossus so it doesn't get boringI’m failing to see where he said he wasn’t a fan of inversions?

Well I'm assuming that's either of 4 reasonsI enjoy inversions; I don’t rate the Smiler all that highly.

1) It's presentation, given that it is admittedly on the dirty side
2) You find it rough and uncomfortable on certain inversions
3) You find it repetitive and uninspiring
4) You don't like the general theme and music

Your opinion on the Smiler is totally, 100% valid. But so is that of anyone who thinks it only average.

Come on, there's 2 airtime hills, give 'em credit.14 loops and the best bit is the airtime hill in the middle.
Maybe they should have had 14 airtime hills and 1 loop?
Actually is there a record for most airtime hills?
Well they are valid reasons, although you must be a snowflake to think the smiler is really rough. Anyone who has been on the Blackpool woodies will know they make the smiler seem like a B&MBUT THERE YOU GO. You’ve literally, without prompt, just cited four valid reasons why people might not rate Smiler as highly as you
.

No point in that we'd be massively outnumbered in the debate. I know there are a few smiler fans on here but heck nearly the whole forum would be backing nemesis. Can we have a separate poll thread, "Smiler vs Nemesis" and then we can talk about other things here?![]()

Oh dear lord where is all this nonsense going!?
I would rather sit next to @Rick on his park bench and be severely beaten by hoodlums with cricket bats whilst being forced to watch an entire episode of Love Island than ride Colossus. However some on here love it. That's fine.
I don't rate Nemesis as highly as others on here (but still enjoy it). That's fine.
I think Blue Fire is dull and would take Icon any day of the week. That's fine.
@Ethan loves The Smiler and thinks it's not "average" to him because he enjoys it. That's fine too.
I enjoy Batman Returns more than Batman 89, most people say otherwise. I think Tangled and Aladdin are superior to Frozen and Lion King respectively, the box office returns say categorically most people disagree with me. I bought a Jag XE over a 3 series despite the Beemer outselling them 5 to 1 so clearly not many people are with me on that one. I bought a Sega Dreamcast in 1999 and defend it to this day whilst 18 times the amount of people worldwide bought a PlayStation 2 instead. I eat cold minced beef out of a tin, people point out how gross they think I am as, apparently, no one else does it.
None of this makes anyone a certified "Snowflake" or "ungrateful". I don't understand this notion all of a sudden that this has to be some zero sum game. There is no definitive answer to what is the best coaster. Some find the Smiler utter trash, some find it average, some think it's a masterpiece. This ain't Facebook, it's an Alton Towers forum. People are allowed to disagree without having to reach a definitive end. We're not supposed to be finding all the answers on here, we're supposed to be debating them.
I thought this thread was supposed to be about the 2021 season?

If you can accept being “proven wrong” as you put it why is there literally 4 pages of discussion? Goodness me
Anyway .... 2021 anyone?
Let’s speculate on how we feel about the upcoming Summer Event, are we expecting any real changes to the Mardi Gras setup? And do we think that we will be filling all rows on rides any time soon (Blackpool as an example seem to be able to do so now so why aren’t Towers?)

Don't really know why they're not doing it already tbh. Blackpool are doing it like you said so why are towers still only filling half thr rows on 2 of their most popular coastersAnd do we think that we will be filling all rows on rides any time soon (Blackpool as an example seem to be able to do so now so why aren’t Towers?)

The way the parks are now, where it’s pretty much impossible to social distance due to the large volumes of guests allowed in the park, they might as well fill every row, if masks are worn.
I can understand leaving an empty seat, but leaving an empty row on wicker man seems pointless, when they don’t on RMT. The same for spinball, they might as well fill both sides of the ride.

It’s clear that the row thing isn’t a legal requirement either now that other parks aren’t bothering, so I’m genuinely wondering why the park didn’t pull the trigger in anticipation of the very busy half term ?
my guess is they were waiting for the government changes on the 21 June as the hope is social distancing would officially be removed.
Although given the new variants I don’t see social distancing being removed now until all adults have been offered the vaccine.
