To be honest, the communication is shocking. It doesn’t even state implicitly on the booking page that all rides will be back from 22nd May. It also says “detail of these changes is available on our website” yet there’s no clarity anywhere on that site of when the full park offering will be available.

It’s like they want to fail.
 
Oh god I’ve read the Trip Advisor and Facebook reviews and there are some seriously angry customers.

Stories of only a handful of rides being open yet queues of 1.5- 2 hours is beyond a joke. There’s literally no reason why they couldn’t have opened the full park. The demand is clearly there, yet it sounds like they rather be milking their guests and giving them barely anything in return.

Until I know that the new coaster is up and running, I’m staying well away.
 
I remember considering visiting back in April, spent about 30 minutes looking for the open rides list and then laughing that they'd even bother opening with the pittance they were offering.

I want to go to but I'm not going to go until everything is open. Who would want to visit before?
 
Agreed. This can’t be good for their long term reputation and will deter people from returning. Every theme park relies on return custom to get by, so this can’t be good at all.

My assumption, although I could be wrong, I’d that they furloughed literally all their staff including the engineers who carry out the ride maintenance meaning that, when they were permitted to open, barely anything was ready. Not good business sense at all, especially since all the other small parks in the U.K. managed to re-open in April with full ride availablility.
 
I would wager an educated guess that they are struggling enormously from a financial point. Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the park goes into administration (things seem far worse on the surface here than they ever did at Drayton).

The only reason they have a 10 looping coaster due to open in 2020 still not ready in 2021 is costs. The excuse of not having builders available because of the pandemic is nonsesne. It's a shame, as I think it was the perfect ride to rejuvenate the park.

Looking round the Facebook pages of all the major parks no one seems to be happy (largely due to lack of social distancing), but Flamingo Land's Facebook page has the worst comments of them all including several people wanting the park to close.
 
This sounds like an appalling state of affairs. It was my local park growing up, and whilst I haven’t been back since 2007, it saddens me to read about poor operations there, and that was before Covid!

I’m not sure how they can get away with 4,000 on the park and many rides shut. They should have a well thought out number limit if there are only a handful of rides open or it sounds like an abysmal day out will be had by all.

It seems the park’s CBA reputation was bad enough anyway without them nailing their own coffin lid on presently. Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear
 
Went to Flamingo Land for the first time on Wednesday and although all the rides that were open were brilliant, the social distancing was appalling with neither the staff or anyone else apart from me and my friend wearing masks! It's a miracle I didn't get the virus tbh!
Also, the staff I spoke to said the coaster is delayed until 2022 officially and flip flop and the cable cars have been sold!
 
It’s a shame to see Flamingo Land seemingly struggling so much at present. From the perspective of someone who’s never visited, it seems like a really nice, well thought out park, with some excellent theming in places and a surprisingly excellent coaster selection, and things seemed so bright for them pre-COVID.

Why did the pandemic wreak so much damage on Flamingo Land compared to other UK parks, even the other ones with zoos like Chessington, WMSP and Drayton?

Drayton changed hands remember, and had other problems.
Your optimism and rose tinted glasses are coming to the fore here again Matt.
Place is a bit of a dump, the zoo is third rate and looks very worn, broken glass and cracked render walls.
Layout is poor, and theming rotten and sparse.
The coasters are goodish, but operations are terrible, and have been for years.
This year things have been much worse.
Animals mean massive vet and food bills year round.
Mingo makes its real money from the campsite, which has been covid closed.
Struggling, so soaking the punters while they are stuck on staycation.
Shame really, had some good times there over the decades.
Yorkshire not doing well at the moment coaster wise.
