Just on the topic of something new, out of interest what do you think could go in order for this new one to arrive? Obviously The Flume was axed to make way for Wicker Man and based on space in the park, rides that perhaps aren't as up to scratch as they used to be and areas that need a few more things to draw people in, I'm interested to know what you think could possibly be replaced/what land could be used.

I know you have the space where Sub-Terra is and there was talks about it 'coming back' due to the situation where people were seen around the area and lights being tested, so if that doesn't happen (which I don't think it will) could the sub-terra area be used? I'm not sure what the old Ripsaw area is looking like these days. I'm on my first visit back tomorrow so I will be subconsciously looking at the area.

Have AT ever considered a drop ride? Such as Detonator at Thorpe. I know Chessington have just opened a new one, and I don't recall AT ever having such a thing, I think Ripsaw was the closest to that concept or the inside of Sub-Terra?

I can’t see Alton Towers going for a drop tower due to the height restrictions, and I also can’t see them excavating a huge hole just for a supporting flat ride. The Ripsaw site is currently taken up by Funk n Fly, one of the retro squad, however if you take this site, Blade’s site and Sub Terra’s site then you do have a fairly large area. My bet however is something on the Duel site, but I’m not too sure on that now that they’ve spent a bit of cash on the indoor queue. An indoor coaster on that site makes the most sense to me though as it’s a huge brownfield site.
I just can’t see them building on the car park behind Galactica due to the expense of building such a huge car park in the first place, and coaster corner would cause too much hassle for them on the noise and planning front.

I think Duel's area lacks the most of all areas. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Duel literally the only ride in Gloomy Wood? Other than the stalls and things they have there, there is no actual ride. I think an indoor coaster that has some sort of 'horror' element to it could be a good idea, it'd add to Gloomy Wood. I've always wondered about the space behind Galactica, it seems wasted most times that I go there but I don't see them adding another coaster to Forbidden Valley area as you already have Nemesis and Galactica pretty close to eachother, I think another ride in Dark Forest could also be a good shout, Thi3teen and Rita are good but other than those two and the cable cars there isn't much else of a thrill.

(Other than the Waltzers which I think are there at the moment?)

I've already posted this in the thread but there are still areas that could be used such as the old coaster corner area which could fit a new building easily between the Dungeon and the theatre.
For smaller rides there are all the spaces the current Retrosquad rides have been added, plus another couple of locations.
There is also the old Nickelodeon building, which could be extended out the back too.

For a coaster its a bit harder, there was previous plan to use the area round Blade and go out towards the gardens a bit. But if Blade goes they really need to add another two supporting rides to FV.

I really don't think the ride count should go down at present.

My bet however is something on the Duel site, but I’m not too sure on that now that they’ve spent a bit of cash on the indoor queue.

They did not spend "a bit of cash" on that queue. They did the minimum possible to make the ride accessible for wheelchair users. If they had spent a bit of cash it could have been done significantly better.

Using the Duel building is the cheap option, don't need to build a new building. But I'm not sure we would actually get a ride that is better that what is there now really.

The Haunted House has been the only ride in Gloomy Wood for 29 years though, so I'm not too bothered by that.

Yes the Waltzers are in Dark Forest, where the Ug Swinger used to be. I think the area needs two permanent flat ride additions.

Completely agree, once Rita & Th3rteen are done there's nothing worth hanging about for.

I loved Submission in the X-Sector so something like that could have worked (but not bright blue, needs to match the gloomy theme) but even the Waltzers at the minute are a good addition to the area, I think they could maybe even build some sort of ride resembling the Waltzers with some sort of 'woods theme'. Perhaps something like Dumbo in the Disney parks but you're sat in an acorn and it's squirrel themed:D

40 quid still counts as a bit of cash :grinning:

I know Duel's building isn't that tall, but it's huge, so could we see an indoor coaster in there? Would be a fantastic location I think as well.

They could also fairly easily add extra height to it - isn’t it just a barn style shell building made of steel girders and corrugated metal?

It's a big no to Gloomy Wood from me - we don't need another coaster with a dark theme.
What if Duel was removed, though, and they were to change the theme of the area? Gloomy Wood essentially is Duel, to a degree.

They’d admittedly have to change Haunted Hollow, but I can’t imagine that would cost much money. Or, I suppose they could just retheme the main body of Gloomy Wood and have Haunted Hollow remain as a “quirky shortcut” or whatever; technically, Haunted Hollow is as much a part of Mutiny Bay as it is Gloomy Wood.

There's nothing to say they'd retheme though - Mutiny Bay wasn't rethemed when Wicker Man was added, and therefore there's always a chance we could end up with another dark themed coaster and Gloomy Wood remaining. The 3 existing Mutiny Bay attractions wouldn't have been exactly hard to retheme either.

I wasn't implying that it would have a dark theme, just that the bare building itself could potentially fit a coaster inside.

We could perhaps see a trackless dark ride replace Duel one day perhaps. There seems to be more and more companies that are jumping on the trackless technology which will of course bring the costs down.

I'd love for it to go back to being just a typical haunted house style ride.

I think even Garmendale (manufacturer of GG) offers a trackless dark ride, so maybe Towers could team up with them again to build a trackless haunted house ride if Duel does ever need replacing?

I’ll admit that I’ve always loved the general idea of a spooky-themed trackless dark ride through a haunted house, something akin to a modern version of Haunted Mansion. The closest existing thing I can think of to that is probably Mystic Manor, but I’d love it if Alton could keep the facade and queue of Duel basically the same, but put a nice spooky trackless dark ride in there in place of the current ride.
