Scarefest 2021

I'm under the impression that the new one - Trick or Treat Town - will be the replacement "starter" maze
That isn't the case, I believe. Trick'O'Treat Town gives guests bags to go trick or treating and collect sweets. It isn't intended to scare while Darkest Depths was.

Yeah Trick 'o' Treat Town is not a scare maze. It's an interactive walk-through.

Hi all,

Long time lurker here. But now I have a question. Please move or delete if this is the wrong thread for it though.

A friend of mine is coming over from Germany in October and we'd like to visit Alton Towers. It would be his first time visiting AT, and we're both (somewhat) rollercoaster enthusiasts, so naturally we'd like to ride as many rides as possible.

Currently we’re planning to visit on a Scarefest Saturday or Sunday with a Gold Fastrack. 9 or 10 October to be precise. I'm assuming it would be packed, but the park stays open longer and we get to skip the queues once, plus maybe even a few night rides on our favourite rides (with queueing). We’re not interested in the scare mazes.

We could alternatively go on Monday 11 October. The park would likely be considerably less busy and we might not even need a fastrack, but it feels like a 6-hour day isn’t really worth the drive all the way from London and back.

Do you have any views on this? Would you choose Scarefest + Fastrack over the weekday visit?

Thanks for your comments!
Max

We are going the first Saturday with fastrack.

We will also be there on Friday.

Interesting when I booked the FT a few weeks ago quite a few October dates were sold out, yet they are all back on now...I assume they have released more allocation....

Thanks all! The Saturday it shall be. Exciting!
Bit late as you've made your mind up, but I would always go for the Sunday. Sundays are generally the quieter day of the weekend - not just in the park but also the roads driving to and from the park. During term time they're are normally much quieter because of work/school the next day. That means many families will leave the park around tea time so the last 3 or 4 hours are generally pretty quiet. During Scarefest you're best to avoid the Sunday that is usually "Family friendly day" - but from experience, that is normally around the middle Sunday of October.

First Sunday of Scarefest = ‘Family Friendly Sunday’ - hence the advice regarding picking the Saturday instead.

Is it this year? All other years it's been the 2nd one or the one around the 15th - I know because I've been there!
I know these days often coincide with race meetings at Uttoxeter racecourse and this year there is nothing listed other than a meeting on Friday 15th - which of course is the day I'm visiting!!

There is also a "Gentleman's Day" on the 3rd - is that the event they usually visit?

Will be there the weekend of 9th-10th (2nd) weekend so hope its not then!

with the scare maze 4 maze package you have 2 hours to complete them and they open at 13.00, I was wondering when the best slot would be? Are the mazes generally blacked out & enclosed anyway? 13.00 seems awfully early to start - but it makes me think they must be still worth doing in daylight hours?

I really want to do the after dark garden walk and at least once night ride and ambiance - so I'm tempted to do the mazes earlier - can anyone advise if there are any that really need doing after dark?

I was thinking starting at 17.00 as it gets fully dark at about 18.30 then - and I could leave the toxic one till last, then I still have 2 hours of park hours left to enjoy the dark ambience.

Also the trick and treat town - will adults be allowed to do it without children?

Don't worry about stressing to fit them in within the 2 hours, I've found them to be really lenient with this guideline, you can even show up before the timeslot you've booked, as long as it isn't busy they don't mind letting you in, if you're late just explain that another queue held you up and should be no issue at all (If they even question you in the first place). Each maze offers the same experience on the inside even during the day, with Toxic Junkyard being the exception, I'd really recommend doing that when it is dark instead.

Looks like it's being installed over the entire maze, my only question is, why? Sheltering it will surely somewhat dampen the Junkyard feel?

Maybe they had issues with rain/flooding last year? That's one of the risks of doing an outdoor maze in one of the wettest months of a very wet country. :p

It does seem that the maze will be a lot different this year. I guess a roof will help with weather issues, but will also make the maze darker, which I think is much better than walking through it in the light.

This will also explain why they didn’t add the shipping containers on the top level this year, as the roof will be in the way.

Looking at the website, the mazes will be open from 1pm-9pm this year. Really good actually, but haven't they opened later in previous years?
