Football Discussion

Applied for tickets for one of the Womens Euro 2022 matches, that's taking place in multiple stadiums across England. Only one of England's potential matches is at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, and it's a semi final, so there's a chance that we might not get that far. And that's if I get selected for tickets in the first place. Fingers crossed! :)
Ticket applications close on November 16th.

With Derby being my home team I'm disappointed to see them go down for the first time since I started watching football. Hopefully the new owner comes in and invests but carefully and effectively

what I don’t get is why these problems have happened? Mel had all the money in the world, did he just loose interest ?

Its about time the efl clamp down on these poorly run clubs. Feel sorry for the fans but thats how it is

I'd wager of they did youd have a LOT of clubs losing points if they properly clamped down on badly run clubs (or in many cases, clubs who push for the "dream" of promotion only to fall short and suffer the consequences).

Football is utterly messed up financially.

I must agree with @Benzin here, the Premier League is swimming in money from TV rights even without the not so super league. As for most teams below them, money is pretty scarce and many teams have come precariously close to collapse. In the last few years we have lost Bury, Hereford United and Macclesfield Town, the latter had debts of £500,000 which is pocket change for the Premiership, I am surprised and thankful we haven't lost more.

Was just reading an article on safe standing which has got me thinking about it. Next year, a pilot scheme will take place to try out safe standing at selected grounds. Personally I wouldn't cope with standing up for 2+ hours, so wouldn't be happy if it was introduced in all stands at Hillsborough (Wednesday are ironically my team).

What are your thoughts on safe standing being introduced at football grounds?

Given that the odds are that I'll be spending the entire match I'm attending tomorrow stood up in an old fashioned stadium safe standing is a way forward.

Better to do it in designated areas rather than have potential issues in areas not designed to suit it.

I always stand at matches, whether there is terracing or not. I will always make sure I get a ticket in a part of the stadium where others will also be stood up.

Safe standing is definitely a way forward if it means this is actually allowed in all seater stadia. As above, it happens anyway.

I am all for safe standing. I sit at home games but can’t remember ever sitting down for any of the away games I’ve been to in the past 13 years.

Standing in seated areas however definitely is not safe. Each season I see/experience cases of people pushing forward in a goal celebration, leading to falling over seats etc. I remember one time a while back, a younger lad got his leg trapped in a seat and was fortunate not to suffer a serious injury. These things wouldn’t happen with safe standing.

I don’t think it would ever get to a point where an entire ground was safe standing, there will always be the option to sit.

With the history Hillsborough has I can't see them adopting standing (safe or otherwise) any time soon. They may do at some point but I can't see them being early adopters.

I did used to enjoy standing on the kop at Hillsborough though many moons ago.

It was good that you could just stand wherever you wanted which was the best part about it. If you had a season ticket you could still stand with a mate that didn't have one.

I assume that the new safe standing will be an allocated space though? If so then it takes away the main advantage of standing.

Safe standing essentially works like seating (designated seat on ticket) but the seat is locked in place and there's a rail in front.

Seat is still there due to UEFA rulings during European matches.

As much as Watford are our rivals, it's way too much fun to laugh at a club that calls itself one of the big 6 but loses 4-1 to newly promoted Watford with a wage budget less than 1/7th of United's!

Ole Out!!!
I'm a United fan, and I have to agree. We're just going nowhere at all other than backwards. Something's gotta give, and the buck stops with OGS.

On the bright side, Arsenal are back to being dreadful again. :p

Arsenal conceded 4 to Liverpool, you conceded 4 to Watford... don't even bother trying to give any banter out if you're a United fan

Unfortunately your right
Ole has done good steadied is when we were sinking. He’s taken us as far as he can now is the time to walk away.

I want Ragnick - not Rogers or Zidane.

Palace would be good if we could defend set pieces.

That said we played well generally but at times couldn't cope with simple balls over the top. Burnley's main tactic.

Shame Ole couldn't stay a few more weeks. But there's no real vision at the club in general from the outside. Why else would they buy Ronaldo after the years of chasing Sancho?
