[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

It’s 5 blocks (station/lift/brakes x 3), hitting the end breaks on an e stop is no fun experience
On Nemesis, the service brake, safety brake and transfer count as a single block in automatic mode. You cannot have two trains in any combination of these three blocks. That's why I said there's "effectively three blocks".

Virtual Towers Online have been teasing their phenomenal recreation of Nemesis over Christmas, with their latest video showing Nemesis running in the dark. They've added lights on each row. I think it looks quite effective and if done right and respecfully (ie always red rather than multi-colour), could look good on the real thing.

Amazing bit of work but it would add almost nothing in the daylight conditions the ride runs in 95%+ of the time. Overall not really worth it I'd say.

Staffordshire has daylight? Isn’t it either dark grey skies or night time?

Has Nemesis ever have lights on the front of the trains? I vaguely remember a video years ago showing the train with lights on. Could’ve been another invert or I just dreamt it.

We should get a lot more days during the season where the park is open in the dark. It's a gorgeous Theme Park and lends itself so well to night rides. None more so than Wickerman for the obvious Fire effects but Nemmy is also a brilliant night ride. Halloween season simply isn't enough for me.

Many many years ago it was filmed with lights at the front, I think this was just for promotional footage only.

You can see a very brief clip at around 0:48 secs on this old monorail queue video from 2003.

I disagree as the same could be said for Icon but they put lights on that (admittedly, that is open more in the dark than Nemesis but still the vast majority of time it is daylight).

They built in effects into Big Bob that are only really effective at night. LEDs are generally bright anyway and while they wouldn't light up areas other than the tunnels during the day, they would add some interest to the trains.

As you mention, BPB have a much richer history of being open at night and this appears to be something they're trying to build back up, not to mention they're situated in a town with a reputation for illumination. Even so, the case for retrofitting something like this is quite a different proposition to having it manufactured that way, particularly if the manufacturer offer this.

They released some incredible photos of it earlier today! :D

I agree that retro-fitting is far harder than when it's part of the actual design, but if 28 VR headsets and associated kit can be retro-fitted to Galactica then I'm sure some LED lights can be added to the sides of each train of Nemesis - if the willingness is there on the part of Towers/Merlin of course

I'll give nemmy credit, it was running on top form in 2021. So consistent and it really impressed and surprised me. Its really starting to grow on me and I'm looking forward to see how she's running this year. Could overtake smiler possibly, as that wasn't as consistent. But it's still a brilliant ride smiler so it won't be easy but I'm confident that nemmy will close the gap if it continues to run so well

In my opinions nemesis had run incredible ever since I took my first ride! Sometimes it’s only when I sit on the bench next to the helix, that I remember what an absolute engineering marvel it is! Yet alone how good the coaster is in itself, it may no longer be my no.1 having ridden new coasters abroad and in this country too. However it still has a very very special place in my heart as I’m sure it does for so many others too. Long live the beast

Some people never learn! :tearsofjoy:

Nemmy just wouldn't look the same without the rust paint. It suits the theme really well. :)

It's not rust, it's supposed to be blood. The track is supposed to be part of the Monster itself, as it looks quite serpentine, the supports are the steel pinning it down. That is the original story anyway, according to John Wardley. It has since been contradicted by Towers themselves as the Nemesis Sub Terra pre-show video showed track being lowered onto the monster by helicopters so it is easy to see why people think it is supposed to be rust.

Have to admit that I always thought it was rust. Thanks for clarifying. You're right though, some people say the station and track are the creature and the supports are the chains holding it down (as JW intended), and others say that only the station is the creature and the track is the chains pinning it down.
