[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

I can’t see that happening. The vertical loop is already 3/4 way around the circuit & wouldn’t make sense to plonk one before it or after.
Hope so. Just that almost every ride you have now has trim brakes on them and the sad thing is had Nemesis been built today, it would have likely had at least one trim on it.

But I do wonder if Nemesis will be out of action for goodness knows when, what will happen with Forbidden Valley? Might we see something with the Sub Terra building to help make up with no Nemesis in operation?

Ideally I'd love to see a new version of Ripsaw returning (floorless version of the Topspin no less :p) though that is highly unlikely to happen but it do wonder if the thought of the NST building being reused for a return of the ride or dare I say a totally new dark ride I'm sure the thought has crossed the minds of those at Towers as what could be done.

Merlin are really sticking it to Pleasure Beach.

"Oh you wanted to celebrate The Big One's 30th? Well we're refurbing the best coaster in the UK for its 30th on the same year.

Oh, and we're taking your height record whilst we're at it.

Lolz".

Out of interest, was it ever confirmed that this would all be done at once? Is there a possibility that Towers are doing it incrementally, like how Pleasure Beach and Taziker are incrementally doing the Big One?

I would assume the fact there is a planning request means it is all being done at once.
If it was smaller sections like the Big One then it would be maintance and I don't think they would bother checking if planning permission is required.

Due to the Awkward surroundings of the ride I imagine they'd want to do it in one go. Can Imagine it would be a nightmare otherwise.

As for forbidden valley I imagine we'll see a return of an attraction in the nemesis sub-terra building to distract everyone and make up for it.
I don't think we will say anything in ripsaw's spot but I really would love to be proven wrong.

Ah yes, nice to see the rivalry still alive and well!

All seriousness though, are Merlin going to do a BPB by selling of pieces of the old track to the public like what they've done with PMBO? Certainly there would be demand there if Merlin known they'll be making money from this seeing how well this has gone for BPB.

When the rumours of this happening originally started spreading it was said that the ride would close for a season for it to be done. If that is still the plan then it should all be done in one go rather than bits at a time like the Big One.

I had a cool idea; what if they reused part of Nemesis’ old track as a theming feature once the ride reopens? It would be cool to see them do something like Hulk’s new entrance replacing the current entrance or something, and I’m sure it would be fairly easy to get separate planning permission for, if the park wanted to.

It would be cool for them to use some of it to replace the fake bits of track coming out of the monster with actual pieces of old track from the ride. Not sure if that would be possible though.

I could see Sub-Terra re-opening, whether it is the same or similar to what it was, or something completely different in there it would make sense to do something with it. I remember when I got laughed at for suggesting that this could be the case, or atleast that the actors in the sub-terra costumes at scarefest could possibly be hinting at it :D
Presumably this will happen next year so Nemesis would re-open for it's 30th.
Not sure about Ripsaw's spot, but I could see the retro squad returning atleast for this year and possibly next year, probably with a different line-up of rides though.

Will the whippy corkscrew still be there, as most B&Ms transitions are computer generated, and it'll see the whippy corkscrew as an error?

When I saw the new footer and stanchion being added on the helix I thought that there may be some re-profiling but having looked at the existing layout and proposed layout they look identical. So would assume, as mentioned already, the profiling will be the same and will use the existing blueprints, rather than a re-design. And just strengthen the footers and supports on the areas that the stresses are the highest.

Yup I think the addition is solely to spread the load a little, nothing more than that from what I can see. They've always had issues around that area as demonstrated by the multiple times the crane has appeared each season, and with increasing frequency in recent years!

It's good news in the grand scheme of things I think. Sure the roar will be dulled a little, but it'll still be louder than Galactica thanks to its location in the pit. If it's between this or them having to get rid, I know which option I prefer! Glad to see no major changes elsewhere too, it'd be a shame to mess with something that's stood as is for so long and remained as popular as it is.

I don't think the sound will be dulled, the current track is also sand filled.
Here is John Wardley talking about it at Nemesis' 21st celebration event.

That’s strange how the planning application makes it sound like the sand is a new addition then. So there’s nothing to worry about? There are lots of conflicting views on this but if John Wardley says the current track is already filled with sand then I’m with him!

Strange one this, since the planning document specifically says otherwise:

The replacement track and columns would follow the approved layout and design and will have the same appearance externally. In addition to the works ensuring safety standards are maintained while keeping within the existing overall design, an additional benefit is that the coaster track will be sand filled, which will improve the running of the rollercoaster as it will reduce noise levels to the benefit of the site and surroundings. The current track does not have this benefit as the method was not widely used when the Nemesis ride was first constructed. It is confirmed that sand filling the track will not materially change the external appearance of the rollercoaster.

It's possible he is talking about other rides installed after Nemesis, seeing as he says "don't tell the planners about that", although that does sound very tongue in cheek. But given that he says "that is why Nemesis has that amazing noise" the takeaway I get from that is that Nemesis' running rails are sand filled.

On balance I would imagine it is more likely that John has misremembered Nemesis having sand filled track than Merlin misguiding the planning authorities by saying it doesn’t and this re-track will provide sound benefits by adding it in.

Yup, although this is just a certificate of lawfulness rather than a full planning application, if there isn't some sort of reduction in noise levels as stated in the supporting documents there could be some very serious questions to answer. I'd sooner go with the application over John Wardley on that basis considering this application will be off the back over a pretty substantial survey of the ride.
