Flamingo Land: General Discussion

Can’t believe the ride has a hairdressers in the shop. Also shaun from theme park worldwide currently prefers it over nemesis and says that SIK is in 2nd place behind icon. Comming from shaun this definitely means it’s an amazing coaster

Not really. He thought Lighnting Rod and Skyrush were crap so I'll take his opinions with a pinch of salt.

It is Shawn’s opinion after all; what he says doesn’t necessarily go, and you could ride it and think entirely differently.

However, I don’t think it’s too much of a reach to suggest that a smooth, lap bar restrained Colossus clone might rank highly among UK coasters for many. Of course, it won’t for everyone, but I could certainly see a lot of people ranking it highly among their UK coasters.

Getting back onto the ride itself; is it me, or does it look significantly faster than Colossus?

A few interesting points:

- You have to go through the gift shop to get to the queue entrance (exit and accessible through the left-hand doors, main and single rider through the right-hand doors).
- Odd that there is a turnstile too. Will make leaving the queue for any reason quite difficult if you're not short enough to crawl underneath.
- The cable lift hill is VERY loud.

It definitely doesn't - he doesn't like some rides that I do like, and vice versa - I hate Icon for example whilst it's his UK fave. Everyone's opinion on Sik will be different - some will love it, some will hate it.

It is faster; Colossus is 44mph, whereas this is 52mph.
That makes sense, but I did wonder whether it took the elements faster than Colossus irregardless of the top speed.

I assumed that the larger lift hill and faster top speed might have resulted in scaled up inversions to result in similar pacing to Colossus, but it doesn’t look like it!

Didn't he ride Nemesis 63 times in one day? In the rain? I think my opinion of it would drop too....

Looks like a great ride, really powers through those last inversions which looks like an improvement over Colossus.

The "theme", station and name are all terrible, the ride however looks fantastic. I think they're on to a winner here!

The chances of me getting up to Yorkshire any time soon are slim to none, but I must admit that I am interested to see how this rides.

I’m not a fan of Colossus myself, but I do wonder how much of that is down to the roughness and the car design. I don’t like the row of heartline rolls in the second half even when putting aside the roughness and restraints, but I can imagine the first half might be quite decent if it wasn’t so rough, particularly given Sik’s enhanced first drop.

Why does it mean it’s an amazing coaster?

Although I don’t watch his vlogs Shaun a nice guy and I respect the hard work he puts into his channel but quite frankly if you rate Icon as the UK’s number one coaster I can hand on heart say your opinion doesn’t align with mine, and that is fine as coaster enjoyment can be very subjective, but Shaun is not the arbiter of coaster quality on these here islands.

Without going off topic: Icon is his favourite coaster as he likes how it interacts with the other Blackpool Coasters and if it was in another park it wouldn’t be his top uk coaster.
It took me 14 years to I found a better coaster than Nemesis when I rode Kumba at Busch gardens Tampa but I’m sure others wouldn’t agree.
I personally wouldn’t to Flamingo land unless I go on Holiday up there to ride a coaster I already ridden many times at Thorpe Park.

I must say that this does look rather good. It looks and is reportedly smooth, has newer generation trains, lap bars and seems to take all the elements at a decent speed. Of course it could be a load of tosh and I wouldn't take the opinions of people who have been invited for free and had the red carpet rolled out for them in the hope they'll say nice things about it too seriously. None of these people were ever going to say it was crap were they?

That said, it makes me feel rather sad that a one train coaster in an amateur park with very little theming that's been in storage since 2012 and is based on an over 2 decade old design with a name that sounds like vomit could potentially be one the best the UK can provide. Top ranked UK coasters include a 28 year old invert, a Dive Machine that features a drop and nothing else, a small Mack launcher, a pretty cookie cutter layout Accelerator, a tiny woodie with little airtime, a Gerstlauer and a Wing Rider with half it's layout missing.

I am interested to hear if all these people saying that it’s the best, or one of the best, in the UK will still be saying it, by the end of the year or this time next year. Surely a lot of this is knee jerk no?

Quite possibly, I find the whole ranking of coasters so bizarre. I haven't ridden some of my notional favourites for 10+ years, so to jump on Sik tomorrow and compare it to Ravine Flyer II and then neatly slot it into a list of favourites. It's beyond me.

Nothing to ever do with being invited to media events and then having to provide positive reviews either.

If they held such an event for something like Hero you'd get all those in attendance proclaiming "best thing ever".

I'll never understand putting certain enthusiast opinions as fact.
