The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I don’t know… I’d argue that Smiler enhanced X-Sector quite considerably. It was a really energetic, visually impactful ride addition that fitted the theme of the area, and I’d argue that it breathed a lot of life into X-Sector; I’ve seen photos of the area before Smiler (when the Black Hole tent was still there), and I’d argue that the area looked a bit lifeless before Smiler; Smiler added a really cool element of kinetic energy to X-Sector and breathed a lot of life into it, in my opinion.
I do agree with this to am extent...that is when we had Enterprise and Submission working in which with them both gone, the area has lost that little bit of am edge, not to mention the theme is looking a little tired and could do with a wee freshen up.

Bit going off tangent here regarding X-Sector, but I have been thinking of a blessed or cursed idea for the area in which if the area is to good a refresh, Smiler and Oblivion have their track still black yet have their supports painted yellow and orange respectively, an idea that I like yet hate at the same time and with the later it brings to much bad VIBES of Fantagate.

Either way, maybe it's because I'm a bit tidy of most Merlin coasters painted in all black.

For Mutiny Bay, am I the only who quite liked the theme? Yeah, could've have had a little more added to the area like more theming and some other ride of some kind and with Wicker Man being themed something more pirate related but I'd take that area over TWODW any day.

Something I always wonder is if Merlin deliberately intended for TWODW to be half baked in that they were thinking that the area might have a quite limited timespan before it eventually gets rethemed in to something else and so didn’t approach it as they would an area or attractions that were intended to last long term?

I kind of like GGTR and Fandango is kind of fun - both if no queue. How much did GGTR cost though - doubt they'd be scrapping it any time soon, presume it was 7 figures??

I agree as well. X-Sector needs a little freshen up, and I believe the best way to do that is adding 2 new flat rides in place if Enterprise and Spinjam, with Spinjams replacement being themed loosely around Oblivion while using its font, black Black and another colour paint job, and it having a more sharp and 90s like look to it, while not outdated.

And on Enterprise's Place, why not have something themed to the Ministry of Joy, like another contraption of theirs to make their victims smile?

As for Mutiny Bay, I really like the area and spend quite a bit of time in there during the mornings and Evenings, even though I don't ride anything there outside of Battle Galleons. That area and CCL are still the best Areas Merlins ever made i think. Both non IP based and really good quality. Way better the TWODW any day in my book.

If the paint Job in TWODW was done a bit more realistic like Cred Streets and had an operating Theatre and a cafe, I'd actually really like the area outside of it being themed to, i believe anyway, an IP that won't even last 5 years in good condition.

The thing is though with GG using lots of screens rather than physical models that’s an example of one of the things that makes me wonder if it’s something they’d have an eye on potentially retooling in a decade’s time to a different theme IP or whatever as an example. Obviously GG is the main attraction of the area and has a a fair budget but everything else in there just seems a little bit temporary.

I know it's not the areas biggest problem but I'm genuinely surprised that they re themed Frog Hopper and Gallopers Carousel. They both should've gone when CCL closed and should have been replaced with different flat rides.

I must admit, I do feel that there’s somewhat of a mismatch between the target market of those flats and the target market of the area. Frog Hopper in particular feels more targeted towards CBeebies age kids, whereas TWODW and Gangsta Granny are more targeted towards a more middle ground “whole family” audience.

The carousel is inoffensive; there's no need to get rid of it. The frog hopper, though, is laughable. The op cabin is a B&Q shed, and there are now two better themed ones over in CBeebies.

With the hardware on site they might as well make use of it. The op cabin is ridiculous though.

It's funny you should say that because I had a similar feeling until I went with my nephews, who are very much the target age range for the area. Their favourites in the land were Frog Hopper and Flavios, and they went on both multiple times. Neither were that bothered about Gangsta Granny though, which was somewhat odd, as the elder in particular had recently read the book and had been looking forward to it before the trip.

One of the other adults who was on Frog Hopper also mentioned that the ride sequence of the Frog Hopper seemed more thrilling than Peter Rabbit, which they'd been on earlier in the day. Its the first time I'd ever been on it, and it was actually a lot more fun than I had been expecting.

I've been on both a number of times, and this is indeed true. Frog Hopper is much more thrilling. It's the same as it's always been, with Peter Rabbit being far more tame. You can even tell if you watch off ride if you compare the movement of riders legs and hair on the drops.

I hate the shed op cabin and the building behind it, but I think being in Walliams World itself is fine. It seems to be enjoyed by guests I see riding it and offers a different experience to PR. This of course wouldn't be the case if they just ran PR on a different setting.

Yeah I've always thought Peter Rabbit Hippity Hop is on the same slower setting as Treetop Hoppers at Chessington. Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp definitely is a bit more thrilling for the younger guests.

If Towers has to have a knee jerk reaction to remove TWODW, if being so cheaply done would actually be quite simple do in removing all the branding which are just vinyl stickers and that's yer lot.

Bring Port Discovery to life when Project Horizon opens!

and also remove an entire dark ride?

Realistically its not going to affect it, the books are seperate enough from the TV personality I think.

Retheme a dark ride I meant. I've not doubt if this was to happen that the ride would stay up rethemed into something new such as we have seen with 80 Day/Toyland/Charlie/Dungeons.
Yes but the point still stands that removing props to retheme a dark ride is significantly more than just "removing all the branding which are just vinyl stickers and that's yer lot".
