Football Discussion

It'd just be typical that the one World Cup no one cares about and shouldn't be happening in the first place is the one England will win. 😂
Extremely unlikely, the conditions are not in their favour - and they will have far less vocal support for the fans now that alcoholic beer has been banned...

This whole thing just feels like a huge mistake, I'll be glad when it's all over.

We won’t win it anyway, but I feel we can still have a good tournament. But France in the quarters could be an issue.

The whole thing shouldn’t be happening anyway. Same as Russia in the last World Cup. Hopefully FIFA learn from their mistakes

That's like saying the same for Merlin. 😂 TBH though, Merlin do seem willing to make changes more so than FIFA ever will. Only difference here is that FIFA have made look like utter fools such as the alcohol ban and the footage of unfinished fan villages making the rounds.

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Canada, the USA and Mexico, better than Qatar but rather impractical.
Bidding for 2030 is currently between Morocco, Uruguay/Paraguay/Argentina/Chile, Spain/Portugal/Ukraine and Egypt/Greece/Saudi Arabia. Wouldn't be happy with the latter but I don't really get why countries who are capable of hosting the World Cup themselves are teaming up to do events with lots of travel. As for whether FIFA will learn their lesson, umm... Depends how badly the 2022 World Cup goes.

The South America bid at least makes sense given how it will be the 100th anniversary of the tournament which was hosted in Uruguay, though honestly they should have just co-hosted it with Argentina rather than half of South America.

I got Costa Rica in my work sweepstake.

Just have to get through a group consistenting of Spain and Germany. 🤣

Can't wait for Antarctica 2034.

I still stick by what I said all those years ago when Qatar first won the rights to host it. We (as well as other countries) should have just made it clear to FIFA immediately that we wouldn't be taking part. Our administrators have no balls though. Putting the argument about human rights to one side, it's not even culturally a football country and they didn't have the stadia etc to host it. The weather also doesn't suit the tournament. It was clearly and very obviously corrupt from the very start and no-one should have stood for it. Especially David Beckham who was a big part of our own bid team to host it, but now seems more than happy to take the corrupt money to ACTIVELY PROMOTE IT as long as it's good for his bank balance (even though losing out on that bid meant that realistically we'll not get a chance to host it again for decades and decades). There's a big difference between begrudgingly accepting that they beat you in the bidding against actually then going on to actively promote your corrupt rival. The man is an absolute disgrace.

Saying all this however, I will be watching some of it as I do like seeing how the South American's, European's and African nation's perform against each other. It's also a bit like a car crash. You know it's probably going to be a bit terrible but you do have to turn your head and have a look to see what's going on or just how bad it is. Soz.

Qatar getting beat 2-0 at half time already but...

Nice to see that our FA (and others) have no backbone and won't be wearing the "ONELOVE" armbands because they might get a yellow card.

Hope the players do it anyway. Otherwise it'll be a completely pointless exercise once again.

They won't. Most players are robots who will just do whatever they are told. No way in a million years that Kane will risk a yellow card and subsequent suspensions, he'd almost certainly rather win the golden boot than wear the armband.

Pretty poor from FIFA, but it does show how much (or not) organisations really care about these campaigns. As soon as there might be a penalty that actually matters (they can all afford financial sanctions) they buckle to the pressure.

And so the USA will play a team that the majority of Americans can't find on a map! :p

I've find out on a DNA test thanks to my sister, I have 2% Welsh in me with the rest being Scottish...yeah, I'm boring in ancestry, at least I have a team to support!

You watch the Americans beat England on Friday. They looked good for large periods of the game
I'm not so sure, USA had players limping towards the end with injuries so unless they can get back to full strength, I'm not sure they'll be able to match England unless the latter have an off day.

All I can be sure of is that Iran look set to finish rock bottom of the group.

Argentina...Bwhahahahaha! 😂 😂😂

Even more funnier is that my old man got Argentina in the sweepstake and was confident in his chances! 🤣
