We almost won at Wembley which funnily enough thanks to the third place ranking system there would have booked us through to the next round...

We nearly pull it off to beat Croatia in the final group game before we crapped the bed.
 
Regarding a certain chant from the Americans, here's a wee joke...

An Englishman boasts that football's home is England, a Scotsman argues back that Scotland is football's real home and the two argue back and forward of who is in the right...then a loud mouth American walks up and says, 'It's called soccer!'

Cue silence from the Englishman and Scotsman...then a right battering of the American by the two of them joining forces for even saying something so blasphemous in their minds.
 
Double Post here but today is not only St Andrews day but also 150 years ago today marks the very first international football game between England and Scotland first played in Glasgow...the real home of football!

Very Scottish day when you think about it, Argentina go through with a player with a Scottish surname getting the opening goal and so too Australia who have a team of either some of Scottish descent or have players playing in Scotland...crazy concidence you have to say and another thing, the father of Argentine football is a Scot by the name of Alexander Hutton.

That Argentina vs Australia game with be Scotland vs Scotland TBH.

I personally feel nervous over this one. We need a good performance again to keep the momentum going. Win and it’s likely we play France, so we can’t go into that game off the back of a half arsed performance.

I think we will win, but it’s either going to be a 1-0, 2-1 cagey affair or we will absolutely smash them.

Well we won 3 nil, not going to be easy against France on Saturday though.
 
With some of the mistakes made tonight, it doesn't bode well for a game against France. Mbappe only needs an inch and he'll make a yard out of it. France looked weak at the back again today and haven't kept a clean sheet so far, so I'd imagine both sides will be getting the video tapes out and studying them hard. I can't see them beating France though.
 
Maguire is still a concern for me.

He's never been quick but he looked like he was running in treacle tonight.

If he's playing against France It will have to be in the middle of a back 3.
 
Good win tonight but Maguire looked capable of an error or two. Got away with a couple of stray passes.

Our attacking play was good, but it took us too long to get going. I feel if we were behind in a game we would buckle.

France can’t stop conceding so that bodes well. Stopping Mbappé could be our issue.

Putting a prediction out there as dreamt about it.

England win 4-3
Grealish winner
 
Think the fact that I was far more excited seeing England's famous win in Pakistan (cricket) than I was to see England beat Senegal last night (football) says a lot about how I have fallen out of love with the England football team.

Needless to say I hope that we do beat France in what will be a very tough game. Keeping Mbappe quiet will be the key to victory. I expect both teams to score.
 
Well, that's Spain out! They played terribly against Morocco, and the latter had the better chances in the 0-0 draw. Went to penalties... and Spain missed three! Well deserved for Morocco, and they are through to their first ever WC quarter final.
