TowersStreet Planet Coaster Speed Build Contest 2022/23: Winners Declared (contest ended 18th March)

11th hour Matt but can I have an extension?
Of course; your request may be last-minute (I was preparing to post the Week 9 Weekly Digest), but you're within the deadline all the same, so I will stick to my word! How long do you need?

Don't let me stop you posting the next round. The show must go on. Can I have until Sunday night latest? I may be able to upload tomorrow night but not sure what time I'll finish work. I don't want to stop the competition moving forward.

It's honestly not a problem at all. I do have to wait upon your submission before I can begin the Round 8 voting process, but I guess I could post the rest of the Week 9 Weekly Digest before that.

Take as long as you need, and when you've posted, I'll just add your submission to the Google Form and the voting will be ready to go. I'd far prefer that you got a submission in slightly late than not in at all, and I do understand that this week has been particularly busy, what with Christmas and all.

Stand by, as a partial Week 9 Weekly Digest (sans Round 8 Voting) will be on its way imminently...

Week 9 Weekly Digest (31st December 2022-6th January 2023)
I apologise sincerely for the 17 minute delay, folks, but Week 9 is now upon us! Round 8 voting is not quite ready yet due to an extension request, but the Round 7 results and Round 9 brief are still being revealed, so let's get straight to it!

Great round, everybody! Round 8 voting is not quite ready yet, as I have had an extension request and I am awaiting a submission; I apologise for the delay. I will have Round 8 voting posted as soon as the final submission has been received and I have edited the Google Form accordingly.
Round 9 Building
Now that Round 8 is over, we need a new round to test our building skills with. With that in mind, it's about time that I revealed Round 9! The Round 9 brief is... Wild Mouse Replacement at Blackpool Pleasure Beach! The context is as follows:
The sudden removal of the classic Wild Mouse after 59 years of operation sent shockwaves through the UK theme park industry. Nearly 5 years on, many enthusiasts still hold a grudge against Blackpool Pleasure Beach for how they handled the demise of the Mouse, and the "future developments" that it was allegedly removed to accommodate have not come to fruition. While an events space did open on the site, this merely rubbed salt into the wound for many, and it was not a long-term fix. With this in mind, Blackpool Pleasure Beach finally wants to bury the hatchet with those who are still unhappy... they want to stay true to their word from 2018, so they have enlisted you to build a replacement for the iconic attraction. The area is a phenomenally tight squeeze, even with Trauma Towers' former site thrown in too, but other than that, the park have said that the sky is the limit! The Wild Mouse will be a tough act to follow... how will you replace that classic ride?
The round constraints are as follows:
  • Maximum Footprint 50m*66m/164ft*216ft
For some context, this is the area of Blackpool Pleasure Beach we're working with (it's circled in black and labelled "WM"):
Wild-Mouse-Plot.png

I would recommend using Scenario Editor to apply the footprint constraints if you are on PC. As per usual, I have created a Steam Workshop park with the constraints applied that I would be happy for you to download if you struggle to design a scenario yourself: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2907992138

As for console users, I would recommend setting out the footprint constraints using wall pieces or path pieces to build yourself an "area" to work within. I know it's not ideal, but it's sadly the best I can offer given that neither Scenario Editor nor Steam Workshop are seemingly available on console... sorry for the inconvenience, folks.

As for how to determine your ride height, please use Terrain Relative height markers (the option denoted by the picture of a mountain).

As for what you need to do to submit; please build your submission, film a POV and off-ride shots, and post them in this thread. You can do a brief description of what your ride is if you wish. If you have any issues with uploading your video(s), please don't hesitate to PM me.

May I once again emphasise that this is a coaster layout building contest. By all means add some light theming and landscaping if you wish, but the coaster layout should ideally be the focus. Quality of coaster layout is pretty much the be all and end all here; heavy theming won't gain you any points, and no theming won't lose you any points.

The Round 9 submission deadline is Friday 6th January 2023 at 11:59pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. I would be more than happy to facilitate an extension for you if you would like one. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you are happy to forfeit this round and move on after the posted deadline.

So, that's everything for Week 9! If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Good luck, everybody... get building for Round 9, folks! I will have voting for Round 8 online as soon as possible, and I once again apologise for the delay. I will post separately when that is ready.

Thanks Matt. Sorry about this. I have started building I just haven't had more than an hour spare this week.
It's really not a problem; there's no need to apologise! I have no issue with being flexible with the submission deadlines, and I totally understand that this week has been a busy one, what with the Christmas period swallowing up much of our spare time.

Take as long as you need; I'm ready to post Round 8 Voting whenever your submission is ready.
If only Project Exodus was actually like this...

Name: X:/ODUS
Type: Mack Hyper Coaster

Height: 246ft
Top speed: 84mph

I'm so sorry @Archermav... I completely missed your submission earlier! And a great submission it is too; it's got a really nice blend of fun-looking airtime moments and interesting custom inversions!

Sorry to double post, but I have a Round 9 submission ready. Say hello to Maelstrom, a Maurer spinning coaster:

So that's Maelstrom, my Round 9 submission! This was a tough round for me (I really struggle with building in confined spaces), and I'm aware that this is far from my greatest submission as a result, but I hope you like it regardless.

It still looks smoother than Spinball Whizzer anyway. 😃

So...what do you replace Trauma Towers and Wild Mouse with. A tough conundrum for the BPB higher ups. Maybe an SBF Spinner themed to geese? Maybe a patch of grass? Maybe another fountain? Well they're wrong. They should replace it with Trauma Towers and Wild Mouse of course....just a bit different.

The answer all along was a GIB. So I was on Discord with @MattyH and I asked the immortal question: is it possible to fit a GIB in this plot? Things spiralled from there with Matt suggesting the name Trauma Towers and saying I'd be mad to keep the Norwegian Loop I had installed (which is why I kept it as I am clearly mad) before I stupidly said "Might as well try and reinstall Mouse then"

Yes that's a fountain. What BPB work would it be without one?

Time for POVs I suppose:

That looks amazing! Both of them would fit perfectly in the BPB lineup!

Excellent submission @Poisson!

Your boomerang coaster looks like great fun, with some really nice custom inversions!

Your wild mouse coaster looks like it has some really fun airtime pops and forceful hairpin turns!

Cool submission @RicketyCricket! Your ride has some really fun looking airtime moments, some forceful hairpin turns, and some interesting custom inversions!

On a side note, I’d just like to remind everyone else that we are now over half way through Week 9.

There have been 4 submissions for Round 9 so far, including my own. If you would like a deadline extension for Round 9, please notify me before the deadline and I would be happy to facilitate one for you. If you have any issues with uploading videos or anything at all, get in touch with me and I would be very happy to solve these issues for you. If you do not get into contact with me before the deadline, I will assume that you are happy forfeiting this round and move on.

I am still unable to release Round 8 Voting for the time being due to the fact that I’m waiting on a Round 8 submission. I apologise for the delays. Would you guys prefer it if I did Round 8 Voting in a compressed timeframe this week, or would you prefer that I did it next week alongside Round 9 Voting so that the time allowed for voting is the same?
