Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2023 Discussion

That is the site of the new wonder Central Redevelopment Project.
Chariot of the Gods whatever.
That bit in your photograph will be pulled down when the rest has been built.
So sometime in 2090.
They could do with pulling about 80% of the rest of the town down with it. I've never seen it looking so rough, so many boarded up hotels and shops.

Going to Blackpool for a day out is becoming a hard sell and that's bad news for Pleasure Beech and it's not even in thier control.

Whilst I agree the photo is t a great look, as Rob says it is the sight of a new development, which despite many naysayers, I think is more than likely going to be delivered. The government provided funding for the relocation of the courts from that building around 6 months ago and that’s why it now sits looking quite abandoned.

Blackpool is certainly a place of high deprivation and some pretty sure street scenes if you search them out. However, I can’t agree that such pictures are a true representation of the whole town and indeed there are some other exciting developments around the town which are improving things. I would highly recommend having a look around the area of St John’s church square, which now has a whole host of very good restaurants and bars spilling out onto a beautiful square overlooking the church, Winter Gardens and Tower in the background. The new food market has opened behind, which seems to be proving popular and the renovated street scene on Edward Street is also very well done. The old post office which faces onto that has also recently gained funding for redevelopment into a hotel, which I expect will rejuvenate what is a beautiful building.

It’s not all bad and we should be careful of reinforcing the stereotypes attached to the town when there are actually some pretty commendable development occurring.

Don't forget (but everyone does!) the magnificent Stanley Park.
Couple of hundred acres of green safe fun, loads of sporting facilities, model village and zoo...and I would happily move into one of the houses in the area, if only I could afford one.
Blackpool is very much a "sugar or shite" sort of town.
But the poor parts are very poor indeed.
I like brutalist concrete and the smell of stale wee, as well as nice parks, so I'm happy.

Got a weird issue with the app e-ticket wallet now. Three of us have activated our tickets so far (one to go), and although we can each see all the tickets, we can only see certain photos.

Me: can see mine and friend two's photos but not Friend one's.
Friend 1: can see theirs but not mine or friend two's.
Friend 2: Can see theirs and mine but not friend one's.

We can see our own photos so there's no problem, but it's just odd lol. Has anyone else had this issue with the app?

I wouldn't bother with grouping e-tickets. Just head over to the W&G shop and all get paper tickets printed. Much easier to use.

The tickets are an absolute farce.
If using your phone, I would advise setting the ticket as your lock screen. 100% brightness required, adaptive brightness off, and I turn notifications off so they can't get in the way.

On iPhone you can add it to Apple Wallet which then automatically sets the brightness up when you open it. I was using it from Wallet on my Apple Watch.

When was that? Last season you could but this season they removed the option to add to Apple Wallet (unless they have since re-introduced it)

Ah thats annoying then, I visited last July. Wonder why they would remove it as its very useful.

It was around the time they pushed everything to the app over the website, it was supposedly because the way of doing it was "confusing" and "the etickets all live in the app now".
Yes it was a confusing mess (click the Apple wallet button, it sends you an email with a link, you click the link and then you get the pass to add into Apple wallet) but I'd have preferred them to change that so you don't have the email-and-second-link nonsense rather than just remove it altogether.

We haven't grouped them (so you just have one QR code), we can just see all the activated tickets on the app as well as our own. We've got to go to the W&G photo unit as I've booked a digipass, so I'll keep that in mind.

this is very off topic but i am having a debate online with someone because they are convinced the big one once dispatched with their lap bar not locked and the seatbelt wouldn't fit them

now correct me if i am wrong but surely that is an impossible scenario?

It all depends on the control system of the ride and what it allows. Some smaller coasters can technically dispatch with lap bars open (for instance, I know Zierer Tivolis like Treetops at Oakwood can do this), but whether The Big One would allow that is another thing entirely.

They wouldn't let you ride.
Seen a few walks of shame over the years.
Belt and bar get checked by staff before every ride, then confirm their checks at the front of the train before despatch.

The staff should check each bar but it's entirely possible for a procedural error to result in a train going out with someone unsecured - I've seen it happen

The staff member on one side got distracted somehow and missed a seat. This was many years ago now, in case anyone from BPB is reading this
