Thorpe Park: General Discussion

That's why you completely change the idea, just reuse the ride system. Could be themed to anything you like.
It’s a niche ride system though… you can make anything you could imagine.

…As long as it involves a train journey one way, a sliding switch track, a journey back with a shaky track (if that still works) and another slide back into the station, with probably multiple delays.

That last one makes the ride very realistic.

What else could they do except for what they’re already doing? Even Ghost Train follows the main overtones of DBGT.

As we speak, I’m on a train and it’s giving me the same kind of reaction for half the price.

A mirror illusion was under license?

Wow Derren really did play a trick on them.
Even if it is a relatively simple trick, if him and his team are the ones who did the work then they should still get the credit for it and if they only gave Thorpe the rights for a period of time then it makes sense.
Not much different to if Alton Towers had just renamed it to Charles and the Sweetie Maker and just re-drew everything in almost but not quite Quentin Blake's style.

This I think is the massive issue with the whole thing. Why build something you can ride a few miles away. If it was a real Victorian style train on the inside at least it would feel out of the ordinary.
Thorpe really should have gone with a proper dark ride or simulator to start with.

When I rode it for the first time a month ago, we got on it 7 times, but we had a real mixture of roughness, shakiness and smoothness. I guess it very much depended on the train number and where you were sat?

Absolutely incredible ride, though. Such a shame the presentation and surrounding area of it is so bland and poor.

I rode it 3 times last August (one ride in row 8 and two on the very back), and while there was a rattle there, I would not have called any of my 3 rides uncomfortable, or rattly enough to even vaguely detract from the ride. As someone who does not have the world's highest roughness tolerance, I loved the ride and ranked it at my top spot in the UK and firmly in my top 10, which I certainly wouldn't have done had it been uncomfortable!

The new wheels can't have made it that much worse, surely?

Has 3 rides on Sunday and it was great. Bit of a rattle but nothing major.

Running better than ever with the extra speed.
See I felt that while I appreciated the extra speed on the other elements, the stall now no longer feels zero g, whereas on my rides last year I actually got hang time and -0G+, my rides last week the stall felt more like 0.5G or so

The ride is definitely very rough but I think it does depend on seat and tolerance. I did row 8 right side, and it was shaky, but really fun. Second ride we did row 4 (I was right, my sister was left), I found it much rougher but still enjoyable, but my sister absolutely hated it and found it to be the roughest roller coaster experience she’s ever had, at Thorpe, and anywhere

On that day, colossus was unbearable for me but fine for the others, but then Hyperia was unbearable for my sister but she found colossus fine. Still surprised that saw was smoother than all the coasters on my visit except inferno 😂
