Scarefest 2025

Will be doing compound for the first time in a couple of weeks, we understand it can actually be really short depending what way you go.. is there a hack to ensure you can get a longer go ? Without spoiling it for anyone of course

I'm going on Saturday, but this is the forecast  😬

Won't be much open if the wind is like that all day 🤦‍♂️

I was supposed to be going on the Saturday evening just for the night rides. Will keep an eye on the forecast as it won't be worth turning up if the wind is like that.
Keep an eye on Ride Times as well, if everything's listed as closed you'll know why lol

A bit surprised to see so little discussion over this year's event, but at the same time I get people might be staying away after a few quite stale years or waiting for reviews with the cost. Personally I think this year's event is one of the strongest in my relatively short time doing Scarefest (started doing the mazes in 2020). Compound is once again excellent, although I don't like the concept of having to pay so much for a maze that gives such a wildly different experience every time.
We paid for a second run through to get a different route, and although my friends got wildly different experiences I got sent through the same way every single time despite my best efforts. What are the odds.
Mine Tours was particularly strong this year for me, even though I, once again, hope this is it's last year.

Edge of the Forest was decent, although I feel it was a little bit overhyped from the reviews I had seen.
I had kind of figured out the trick from the very first trailer, so it didn't quite have the same effect for me that it may have done for other people. It did a good job of convincing others that we'd gone round in a circle, but for me it felt just a bit repetitive. It might improve once the actors familiarise themselves with the space a bit more. I got one or two good scares. The finale is decent, although Leshwall isn't quite the hulking beast we saw in the trailer and gives me more... Teenage Groot VIBES. I didn't find it very scary, but it is well themed and quite fun.

Dark Hollow is an EXCELLENT addition. Definitely wasn't quite what I was expecting before going in, but what we got was better than what I had imagined.
I LOVED the use of space outside of the zone, such as the Swiss Cottage and down the pathway past the exit. Lots of bits it may take a few run-throughs to notice. The Swiss Cottage scene also worked as a nice distraction before I was charged at by a bear. Actors with lots of energy.

Burial Grounds was quite weak I think. Not sure if the actors have been told not to use weapons this year or something, but multiple times I walked past actors holding baseball hats and the like, only for them to scare me with their hands. Particularly enjoyed the guy holding a machete by the blade. Think this scare zone has run it's course a bit.

Ratings:
Compound - 5/5
Mine Tours - 4/5 (but please get rid now)
Edge of the Forest - 2.5/5
Dark Hollow - 4.5/5
Burial Grounds - 1.5/5

I haven't been to Scarefest in a while now but from what I've seen of Burial Grounds in photos it's just not very intimidating, they all look a bit silly. Actual area looks good though.

My nephew is interested in trying out some of the scaremazes but he's only 10 years old. Are there any that are suitable for him. He obviously doesn't want anything too terrifying and he probably can't go on some due to age anyway. No idea about scaremazes as I don't have interest in them. Just wanting to pass on relevant info. Thanks 👍 :)

Try him in the Burial Grounds and Dark Hollow scare zones. Not sure about the others. I'm doing them tomorrow, but from what I've heard I'm not sure he'd like any of them scare wise

Thanks for that. Do you (or anyone) know if there are age limits on the other scare mazes, or if there is an overview/guide anywhere online (without having to watch some idiots Youtube video)? 👍 :grinning:

The thrill mazes are 12+, although that is only a guide and not enforced. I second @Danscott22's suggestion of trying him in the scare zones first, as those are a great step-up to the paid mazes.

There are age *recommendations* which aren't enforced.

In terms of things to expect in a scare maze, darkness, enclosed tight spaces (in some cases), loud noises, actors (who might touch you and will get up in your face), potentially being split from your group, crawling (in some mazes), just kind of general overstimulation in every sense of the word for about 5-10 minutes (if you're reallllly going slowly to get value for your extortionate entry fee :p)
