Ride Availability/Operations 2022-26

Anything that “should” be open as per the ride availability page.

I thought that was obvious.

I forgot only negativity was allowed here.

Negativity comes when all people don't get reasonable access to the park.

Ableism comes close behind.

That is obvious.

...and unfortunately a recurring event.

Everything that should be open hasn't been, because a number of main attractions are still closed.

Some essential for less mobile customers.

Simple fact.

If the park had its access facilities for the less mobile open there would be no negativity from me.

Very short queues this week, with good weather, in termtime.

Perfect time for me to do my usual visit.

But I can't, because the skyride is still shut.

No access, no chance of the positive report.

Yeah that’s all fine but you where replying to a post not referencing the advertised closed rides.

And to be fair you could never guarantee any ride operating, I’ve been to the park in the past (pre-naff Tussauds) and it’s been down all day unadvertised.

But I don’t think anyone on the forum thinks it’s ok Skyride and RMT and Rapids (and until recently Monorail) are not ready after the closed season. It’s really very bad but I don’t think it’s a crime to flag that the open rides are showing improvements in uptime.

There were 2 or 3 working in there on Friday, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a cost saving issue.

It was a real eye opener going to Disneyland Paris and taking your bags onto rides such as Flight Force and Hyperspace Mountain!

Whilst this wouldn’t work on all types of trains and rides, surely Wicker-Man might be one example of a ride in the park where this could work okay? Or is it just not the done thing in the UK regardless?

There was no bag drop on either Smiler or Thirteen today which had a noticeable impact on dispatches. Particularly when the Smiler team were forced to take a problematic train off after a period of downtime at lunchtime and were running it on three for a while.

I'm hoping this is due to a staff availability issue rather than staff budget - even though it's not peak holiday season yet it was a sunny weekend day and didn't really warrant being treated as an off-peak day.

WM is such an odd situation as they've seemingly created a ride that can effortlessly operate very close to the maximum theoretical capacity but none of the peripheral stuff can then keep up with the ride itself. When we rode today our train was sat ready to depart several seconds before the ride would allow. Meanwhile the bag drop and preshow could only just go fast enough to keep the trains going out full - they were often batching people to rows 11 & 12 after the loading gates had opened.

Elsewhere, 10/10 to the Nemesis team this evening but throughputs on Smiler and Thirteen were significantly impacted by the closed bag drops. Oblivion and Galactica need additional trains to be able to run full capacity but at least the broken row on Hex has been sorted since I last rode. All in all, a pretty mixed bag really.

Usually the door will open and the video plays as normally, often happens when the station is empty and they need riders.
I often think the staff at the pre show sometimes spend so long trying to get as many people on there as possible, they would be better just starting the show with less people and waste less time.

Feel like the pre show staff feel like they have to stuff that room because the bag drop/batching room is full because staff seemingly can't be bothered to use the merge point as designed.

Wicker Man's merge point is terribly designed, I'd feel incredibly sorry for any staff dealing with it. They need to slim that corridor where the baggage hold is down to stop the pushing, then markers on the floor where you should stand in the preshow room. Nothing will solve the issue of there not being enough space in the station after the preshow though.

I wonder whether funnelling people through a cattle pen that goes past the bag drop and through that batching room before the pre-show would help. Particularly on busy periods, it’s very unpleasant in there and I agree with @djtruefitt that it’s wasted time by the batcher shoving the pre-show room full of people.

There should be a set capacity for the pre-show room (not overcrowding it) that can run more regularly and get people moving through quicker.

...or just scrap it.
I bet 99.9% of riders have seen it before.
Keep it as an option, or put zig zag barriers in there as a walk through, with a viewing space at the front for those who want to watch it.
Other rides cope fine without a claustrophobic box room.

Show, don't tell. We shouldn't have to wait through an exposition dump. Leave the preshows to the dark rides.
