The sign does look very good in person, and you can't quite tell from the photo, but it is all 3D. Also the "CBeebies" letters still have a plastic film over them, which is why they aren't very yellow.

I think the TH13TEEN ones were more like ivy, and were very crap and have now all fallen off. I hope to god these are much better quality then any of them in the Dark Forest!

Just realised the letters in 'land' are like fridge magnet letters kids have. I like that :)

That all looks pretty good to be fair. Let's just hope the leaves aren't blue by the end of the year like all other Merlin leaves!

I'm disappointed that both the BBC and Merlin seem to have no problem with partnering with a business which uses animal testing for cosmetic and cleaning products. As license fee payers and loyal Alton Towers customers we should be outraged by this unethical partnership. I might start a petition over this!

I don't think they care, but even then I think sometimes you have to deal with what's best for you, not necessarily the nicest. To quote a great man ''If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil.''

PETA have it on their "do test" list as it sells in China which requires animal testing on all products. P&G announced they where actively aiming to stop animal testing in 1999. Though PETA acknowledge that they have put a lot of money into alternatives to animal testing.

So they are not angels in this field but have put $250,000,000 into alternatives so not as demonic as some.

It's pretty disappointing, especially on the BBC's part, but it's a done deal and unfortunately somewhat the norm in big business. Meanwhile, Alton Towers burned tens of animals in 2001 just in order to get the park open on time.

Boycotting the park yourself would be an effective start.

I accept your points Dave, but I don't feel that it is an excuse, even to trade in China. They are not the worst offenders by far, but they are still an offender that is putting animals through torture purely for financial gain.

Plastic Person - I had not actually been aware of that? If so that is an absolute disgrace and Alton Towers should be pushed by us to apologise, pay large donations to animal charities, and make a commitment never act in such an atrocious way again, although I think slaughtering animals on purely financial grounds should be illegal anyway.

If you Google "foot and mouth slaughter Alton Towers" you'll find a few news articles about the animal killings at Towers.

Anyway the foot and mouth slaughter is irrelevant to CBeebies Land or the promotions for CBeebies Land (the original concern of animal testing is fair enough). Don't really see why something that happened 13 years ago needs to be dragged up apart from having a slight dig at Towers treatment of animals in the past. Hardly illustrates the parks stance on animal rights now.

Agreed. The foot and mouth slaughter was of a different time, under a different management. Unfortunately nowadays, the animals of Alton Towers suffer an even worse fate...

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of the Cbeebies land sign. Looks a bit cheap and tacky to me. If I'm honest, I'm not a fan of the whole area.

Have to agree on the entrance looking naff. The same cheap plastic daisy tops as those used in Cloud Cuckoo Land combined with a mostly two-dimensional sign is hardly a magical welcome.

Yes, that mostly 2D sign where the word CBeebies, blobs, and the individual letters in the word 'Land' are all 3D is very flat.

The only 3D pieces on it are the letters for 'Land'. The rest are just raised 2D pieces, hence the shadow. So yes, it's mainly two-dimensional.

The farm was tired and needed refreshing and I think CBeebies was a great choice of IP to use - but why does it all have to be multicoloured and plastic-y?

Bright colours in your face is not the only thing which appeals to kids.

Storybook lands sign was completely two-dimensional.

As for the aesthetics of it I quite like it, it is an area for pre-school kids so seems fitting for it to be based on bright primary colours.

How is that a Justification?

This is meant to be attractive to kids under 5, it's bright, fun and three dimensional. That as much justifies it's design as a flat scroll did for story book.
