Re: 2014: CBeebies Land
Here are a few photos from Thursday. I forgot to take my camera with me, so only took a few photos with my phone.
Leafs being added to the trees:
I think this is where the CBeebies photo studio will be:
Also here is the full CBeebies map, which shows details on the food outlet, toilets, pushchair parks and a postbox!
Some CBeebies goodies are now also available in Towers trading, Splash Landings and Alton Towers Hotel shops.
Who wants a CBeebies blob!?

What intrigues me is the separate entrances and exits.
I remember a system they had at a Brewers Fayre play area I once went to, where all the kids had to wear these bibs with RFID trackers in - stopping them leaving the play area etc.
I wonder whether alton may introduce something similar.

I'd be very surprised if they did something like that. I can imagine it becoming a bit of a nightmare to mange with the number of people coming in and out, as this will undoubtedly become very busy at peak periods.
Personally I think it's more of a temporary solution for the first year or so, so that they can control the area better. I'm not sure the park would like the idea of some 10,000 people flooding into the area during peak times all at once
I reckon we'll see them maned to control and limit the number of people going in and out, which wouldn't be a bad thing really, as I know I'd hate to be in there with a child if it was absolutely heaving and they could get lost in the crowds.

It wont be the whole area as a one way system but a different entrance and exit so they can control how many people are entering the area. Guests would be able to do what they like once they enter the area, if the area gets full they will restrict guests from entering asking guests to come back latter. Universal did this with the Harry Potter area at IOA back when it opened in 2010.
It would make sense as its expected to attract alot of guests and would be first port of call for many families this year.

The only way in and out of CBeebies will be via the main area entrance and exit. So no cut through to spinball.
Quetzal said:I was wondering why one of the signs on the trees was on the wrong side.
How does this entrance and exit strategy work for the pathway into Adventure Land, will that be blocked off?

By the looks of things, the fence that is now between sonic and squirrel is permanent, as it is painted yellow on the inside. If it was temporary there would be no need to paint the inside of it.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Towers have secured a partnership with the massive company, P&G, to market CBeebies land. This is a very strong move from Towers in terms of marketing and is even bigger than that of The Smiler last year I believe.

As long as they put some more fake foliage on the left side of the sign to cover up the metal I'm happy.
I didn't know what to expect but it looks ok, nothing amazing and pretty basic, but not offensive on the eyes... it's better than The Smiler's entrance 'sign' so they are improving.

Gotta say I really like the look of the sign and the tree with the daisies on. Going tomorrow so I'l get to see it and judge it better

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land
I think all the debate surrounding CBeebies is great, I am really enjoying reading it.
My personal thoughts on the retheme is that the reason for any concern or anguish, is that - quite simply, Storybook Land in itself was synonymous with the 'magical' 1990's, which many of us aged 20+ look back on so fondly. It's natural to have some level of anxiety when the park have removed one of the last staples of that era.
We're being left with progressively less and less from that era - so it's natural to feel some kind of negativity towards what is an IP-led area which, on the face of it lacks the 'depth' that we perhaps would love at the park. I agree with the comments about things like craftsmanship and so on - when you compare the original Storybook Land sign to that of CBeebies, for example - but that's the corporate game.
That said, Alton Towers are late to this game and CBeebies is their attempt at shoring up the younger audience after Drayton Manor Park, Blackpool and Paultons Park have completed wiped the floor in recent years. In reality, Alton should have been a leader in the redevelopment of kids areas within theme parks - rather than leaving it until now. That said, they have ended up with a strong brand which will get guests in by the bucket load.
I am looking forward to seeing the finished area, but I still believe the lack of physical new ride hardware is going to come back to haunt them when the crowds start piling up in May...

I still find it amazing that they are investing such as a large sum of money into an area (£8 million is it?) and yet there won't be a single new ride at all. I strongly hope that there is a 'phase 2' next year which includes a kids coaster.
I am not against the retheme on the whole but am still concerned that all they will do is paint the farm facades and be done. CBeebies is a VERY lucrative IP to have but the implementation by Alton Towers is cheap and crude to say the least.

The Postman pat ride system is brand new. I imagine they will make CBeebies a multi-year investment with new rides coming along in the future and that £8 million will likely include the IP spend.
