To answer you question no, it is not. I'm pretty sure that crown lies with Rameses. That's the flat most people know anyway.
In all fairness, that's probably true. I can't think of anybody in my area who knows what Ripsaw is, so it is likely the same could be said for Rameses further north.'Iconic' perhaps wasn't a very good choice of word, but I meant wider public awareness of a flat ride. In your neck of the woods maybe Rameses is the best known flat, but up here I haven't encountered many people that have even been to Chessington, let alone would be aware of their often poorly regarded top spin.
There have been an awful lot of trees cut down to the back of Oblivion... this could just be regular/needed maintenance on the wood land, or clearing room for buildings/infrastructure that maybe needed for Ripsaw there?!
I'd imagine if this did happen, and it's not the worst idea in the world, it would mean the end of Ripsaw with fountains.
So Ripsaw is currently out of action? :-/
I personally do not see the point in the fountains. I first rode Ripsaw at ScareFest last year, and including that trip, to date, I have visited a total of 10 times, and have ridden it on 8 of those 10. The ONLY time I have ever been splashed on Ripsaw by the fountains was at ScareFest last year, when it was raining and damn cold, whereas I've visited on rather warm days this year, and haven't been splashed once.
Ripsaw is very popular with the public. Near enough all my non-enthusiast friends show their praise for Ripsaw and rate it as one of their favourite park rides.
There's a video circling around Facebook at the moment of a Top Spin, and a lot of the comments on there say how amazing it looks and how there's one at Alton Towers.
