Instead of a New Ride - Would they ever update/upgrade an old one?

OK, so my thoughts on this are purely for a selfish reason!

As Nemesis and Oblivion are getting a little old now..... and i can't imagine Alton Towers being the same with out them..... would they ever upgrade.

OK so for Oblivion, could they ever add a loop coming out of the tunnel like we have seen on later Dive Machines. Or add the Floorless Cars? OBLIVION 2.0

Maybe if Nemesis got so old..... They would just replace the whole track with exactly the same because it is such a damn good ride?

Whats your thoughts?

Adding an inversion on Oblivion? No, would never happen. It'd be too expensive and I don't think you could even fit one. However I think the idea of turning the cars floorless is a decent one. It's not impossible and it's been done before on Sheikra. But I wouldn't want it to happen, since it's only one of two dive machines where the trains have floors.

As for Nemmy, I imagine replacing the track would be extremely tricky due to its terrain. But that will be ages away if it needs to happen.

In short, no. :p

Oblivion will always stay as it is, and if Nemesis is that old that its track needs replacing, then the ride will just be scrapped.

Oblivion , turn the trains around, don't look up !
This would be sensational. I am not sure how practical it would be on a Dive Machine, but it certainly seems B&M are far happier to mod existing coasters than they have been previously.

I personally would like to see Oblivion updated to floorless but I'd imagine the work to update the station would be quite extensive. I wouldn't be against it.

@Khanage - Floorless rides are fun, but I am not convinced Oblivion is the right candidate for the Mantis treatment. Not least because the effect would be completely lost in the tunnel whick makes up the bulk of the coasting segment.

Also, it's worth noting that SheiKra was built with the floorless conversion in mind.

Backwards on the other hand, bring it on - if it's technically feasible.

In terms of the forces of the ride would backwards be comfortable? Have a forward and backward facing row on one car would be cool, maybe more comfy restraints would be required.

Backwards Blivvy would be insane. If you think it sounds completely ridiculous, remember that Six Flags turned around one of their Batmans which is meant to be one of the more intense inverts. Although would Oblivion's cars be all completely backwards, or would the station be modified in such a way that it could have both forwards and backwards?

Not that I agree with turning it backwards however, it should be left how it is.

I thought nemesis' track was replaced relatively regularly anyway... Usually done over closed season of course. Again, I thought this is why B&M said they would never build a coaster as intense again because they have to adhere to a 'warranty'. How true this is I don't know...

Oblivion backwards would be freaking awesome albeit probably painful - don't think floor-less would be beneficial at all however.

Turning Oblivion floorless would be a totally pointless gimmick... so chances are it's exactly what Merlin are planning for 2017! :p

In all seriousness I can't ever seen it happening and the same goes for it ever operating backwards. Varney said at the Nemesis 21 event that he's not a fan of turning coasters backwards and that it doesn't add anything to the ride experience.

:)

And yet they went and did just that to a couple of rows on The Swarm at Thorpe... :p

It works brilliantly on the B:TRs - there's nothing nauseating about the experience, was good fun!

I think Varney keeps his cards quite close to his chest, I wouldn't write off another attempt at something backwards, but I do infinitely prefer SWARM forwards.

I did say backwards Blivvy as a joke but thinking about it
I so want to ride that ride !!!!
Hanging backwards over the drop, knowing its coming then omg :D

I think I would shit myself on Blivvy backwards. If the front row could be turned backwards so the back row faces the front - facing the backwards guys - that would be fun! :D
