Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Well Merlin have completely outdone themselves with their latest fenscapades at Chessington.

I couldn't be bothered to take photos but luckily someone over at TPR noticed the same things I did...

Who looked at that and thought 'that looks good'!? Whoever is responsible for this abomination needs a slap.

The Safari Skyride track has also only been half removed. On the positive side though Tomb Blaster is looking great this year.

What's wrong with the second one? Provided they remove the old mossy fence behind it...

It's the fact they couldn't be bothered to remove it in the first instance.

It looks incredibly half arsed and sloppy.
Presumably it's safer to install a new one and then remove the old after rather than having to put up construction fences and do it all at once? Since it wouldn't be able to all be done while the park is closed overnight.

This is of course providing they do actually remove the old one.

Re:That second photo: why? Absolutely laughable. Would have looked fine if they removed the old fence, but why do that? World's first theme park fully dedicated to looking half arsed anyone? And are we finally at a point where we need bright blue barrier to tell us not to kill ourselves touching a tree?

Any photos of skyway? Can't believe they'd leave half the track in place, but then again, it's merlin.

Every update I see from Chessington is like watching your old beloved pet slowly dying in your arms. Only worse, because you can't make that final, tear filled trip to the vet to end's it's suffering.

It's bugged me for a few years now that Chessie still gets huge numbers of people turning up despite the park making virtually no effort in offering a decent day out.

The park is full of mediocre rides operated badly and the infrastructure is wholly inadequate to cope with even a medium day and yet people still flock to the place - WHY?!

It's probably all the parents about my age who remember the place being amazing back in the 90's, thinking it'll make a great first park for their sprogs. Would love to know what they make of the place now.

Paultons is much better than Chessie these days. Because they have owners who actually give a damn about their park.

Sad, but true. :( Well, for the younger market at least. I've often reccomended Paultons over Chessy for friends with little kids. For the older ones, I'd say Drayton has a better mix of rides.

Agree with all of that Slaphead. Drayton is a day that little kids and families can enjoy, but older people won't get bored with (i.e Apocalypse and Malestorm). Paultons is more or less 100% dedicated for families, but it's still a superb park for that audience.

90s Chessie had a good mix, lots of kids ride, but still had Rameses and the old Vampire for the "Thrill" bit.

The other day at Legoland, the ride ops were saying "you're secure" to each person when they checked their lap bars... it's getting a bit ridiculous now. They're genuinely ruining the entire point of "theme parks".

Bit off topic, but when I last went to legoland I went on knights quest, and the op was doing this, only instead of checking the bar, he lifted up my arm instead. What's more worrying, is that he told us we were secure :p. But yeah merlin seem to be killing the parks, if not just by removing rides and having appalling operation, then by any escapism the place once had :(

Chessington is in a similar situation to Alton Towers being in desperate need of investment in new attractions and park infrastructure; especially when you consider that many of the rides are over 20 years old.

I think the parts of the skyway that are left pass over animal enclosures so are harder to remove. I'm sure I read they are planning to remove them next Winter.

That bright blue fence is awful though.
