What was bad about Texas Giant and what did Gerst and Six Flags do? Thanks

Someone got ejected off the ride(and died) due to their large size, and Gerst was the manufacturer of the trains for New Texas Giant.

I was on park yesterday and sapped a few photos, the most interesting is the track ledgers through the metal structure. Some nice headchoppers here

Well i have seen the site with my own eye.
Lift hill looks good. The drop from the top of it to the bottom of the site is great.

What my worry with this ride is, is that it's just going to be dull. The layout reminds me of El Toro at Freizeitpark Plohn. Same kind of height, same kind of layout, ie low level hills. If it is anything like it, I know I will be dissapointed, as that ride just doesn't do anything.

I just hope that it does have some kind of launch to get some initial speed as it's going to need it.

Let's be honest though, if it did turn out to provide some insane amount of speed, Towers would get it slowed down somehow due to safety concerns. Not trying to be too down on things, but most things are a bit of a disappointment at Alton these days.

Unfortunately you're right. Thirteen was ok before the trims on the first drop which made the outside section devoid of any thrills, so yeah they have history of neutering coasters.

Don't get me wrong, El Toro does have speed, it's just the layout which doesn't do anything with it, which looks to be the case with SW8. Hopefully I am wrong.

RMT used to be decent too, until there was a mechanically induced accident on that. Since then it has been slower. Used to get more bonus laps too when it wasn't very busy.

Why would they get it 'slowed down' due to safety concerns?

Sorry? Are you saying GCI wooden coasters are somehow unsafe?

The trims on Th13teen were not added due to safety concerns. They were added because Intamin are a bit of a shambles.

Nemesis. Galactica. Rita. Oblivion. The Smiler.

These have not been 'slowed down'. Maybe Spinball Whizzer should not be slowed down on the block sections, and we can all break our neck?

I could never understand why they didn't just build a smaller lift hill rather than trim the hell out of it on the first drop.

If it was some sort of design flaw on Intamins part that makes more sense.

Back to SW8, the lift hill just looks odd at the moment. I can't decide whether I like it or not.

Weren't the trims added due to the trains entering the lift hill to the drop section too fast?

I'm not really up to date with the intricacies of rides, neither do I attempt to be. I just tell it how I see it. Rides at Alton seem to have got slower or are kept slower than they could be in recent years. The line where that increase in speed versus danger is obviously down to Towers' discretion in the end. You can't deny that RMT has been more tame since the accident? Trims on 13..... etc

Seen a lot of videos and pictures of the site currently and I must say, I'm very positive about SW8.

Everyone has said how the lifthill is taller than they expected and with the ride being in a slight pit I can imagine it will be reaching some decent speeds.

On top of what looks like HUGE theming structures, if this is done right, which I have a good feeling it will be it, we could be seeing one of the UK's best coasters.

The fact RMT is slower isn't representative of the other 8 coasters in the park.

It's a nonsense and lie that any other coaster at Alton has been slowed down since opening. What evidence do you have to support your claims?

Suppose that I concede that most of Towers coasters have not been slowed down, apart from the fact that 2 of them have. I'm merely suggesting that a future addition such as this new one may be subject to safety concerns especially in this day and age. No need to get funny about it Dan.

I am not getting funny about it.

When a forum member makes absurd sweeping generalisations, it's going to get challenged.

Thirteen was trimmed to remove any negative g on the hills, there may also have been issues with the second lift but that's not the main reason for the trims being where they are.

Back at SW8, progress is looking good. I'm not particularly hyped as it looks pretty tame for a GCI, maybe El Toro scale which to be fair isn't bad but nothing spectacular. I'm expecting it slot in between Thirteen and Spinball in terms of thrill level.

For the record Thriteen was trimmed before it even opened. Initially the ride had no trims at all, then right before opening a very crude set were added. A few months into operation the ride closed and the current trims replaced the first set.

There's debate if the first trims or there replacement where the most intrusive, but if anyone tells you they rode before either set where added they are most likely lieing.
