Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

The thing is, by having such high PPR prices BPB are clearly encouraging advance online bookings for wristbands, which allows them to pre-allocate staffing (thus giving them greater cost control) and gives them a guaranteed source of revenue regardless of weather. Things like this are very hard to place a value on unless you have insider information and statistics, which is presumably why BPB feel like their current strategy is the best one.

Just trying to get this conversation back on the correct thread...

I very much doubt they have any statistics on people that simply don't come or walk away because of the gate price.

I noticed they recently extended opening a couple of times and offered wristbands for £22 from 4pm, so they are at least trying something but it is very spur of the moment so not really advertised.

I wonder if it would be worth trying a few designated days (with pre-advertising), that have 50% off the amount of ride tickets required for rides and a refund of the £6 entry fee in ride tickets. I don't see how that can hurt the business and if it doesn't generate any extra cash then they can simply abandon the idea after a few attempts.

I would also like to see the gate price reduced permanently as I think they have got that very wrong this season.

Nash and Valhalla are open, even though staff just told me they are “Closed all day”

The admissions staff rely on a list of rides highlighted in red and green on their tills with the occasional comment added. Thing is, nobody from the operations/rides departments update this list; the admissions department management update it according to what they hear/find out.

Surely communication between two important departments of a business should be key. How hard is it for Valhalla and Nash staff to contact the main desk and tell them that said rides are now open?

I suppose its better than it being the other way, where the desk tells you everything is open, then you walk in and two of the first rides you get to are shut, but really how hard can it be to have accurate info available to the paying public?

Does anyone know why East entrance is still closed? I believe it has been for a couple of weeks now. Good job season pass holders can get their wristbands from the information desk to the right of the main collection centre, as they were queuing to the doors of that yesterday. Also why is Watson Road still closed? They can’t put this down to Icon construction now. It’s a public right of way isn’t it?

Footpath open, road shut, you can walk through.
Rehearsals for hot ice means no public skating, so east gate shut, as season pass holders don't count.

You can walk through Watson Road but they obviously don’t want you to. Where the road is blocked off to traffic but a few weeks ago you could walk down the path and use that entrance, a sign now says “Footpath closed.” Wonder how long this will be for. Quite a few families were trying to use it yesterday

East Gate was open Sunday morning, then closed (alongside the arena) at the end of the day meaning we had to walk all the way round outside to get back to our car (in east car park)!

Terrible customer service, clearly trying to upsell the "premium" (£15) parking by forcing you to walk round if you pay £10.

I'm not sure that really is the reason, perhaps @rob666 is right (it wouldn't be the first time!) and it IS Ice Arena related, the East entrance being shut. Spare a thought for me, parking beyond Big Blue heading away from the park and then having to walk ALL THE WAY to North entrance. A terrible state of affairs, having to walk for a few minutes on a nice day! Still at least I didn't still pay a tenner to park. I parked for free !

This may change once the new hotel and bar on Ocean Boulevard opens next year.

And you need the bloody exercise.
Another mention in the Watson Rd mystery...
Could it have been kept closed because if open it could be used as a car bomb site by terrorists?
Security closure following risk assessment.

Or Mandy throwing hissy fits cos the skaters can't catch the beat in the hot ice finale, and shutting the arena for public skating for extra rehearsals.
All the entry staff were redirected to whipping the skaters.

The closure is weird. It was originally temporary via the correct applications. Now it seems to be semi-permanent. They’d need to apply for a stopping up order to make it permanent though. I’m not aware this has happened. I can think of two explanations:

- BPB either need the storage or haven’t got around to moving the rest of the paraphernalia down there

Or

- there’s a strategy to try and get the road stopped up permanently and this closure forms part of that.

In other news, we now have a name for the new hotel, along with some other snippets. I like the logo:

It's definitely got the best name of any hotel at BPB, I'll give it that.

Nah, I like it, and the associated style. 'BLVD' is a bit naff/Amanda-ish though, Boulevard spelt out would have been fine by me.

It is when you leave the park at 7pm, have a 5 hour drive home and expect to be able to jump in the car and go rather than leaving another 20 minutes later!

That's not really the park's decision though surely? It's a public road - the whole reason the overpass exists is that the park couldn't get permission for the road to be closed.

Isn’t that most city centre bridges though? The terrorism argument just seems a little hysterical.

Plus, you can still drive under some of the bridge, so that’s clearly not the concern.
