Thorpe Park: General Discussion

I liked it, but what I didn't like was the "hyping up" that went on beforehand, but I guess they have to do something to get the desk jockeys loosened up so they don't ripped their tendons out their foot within the first 20 foot.

Dippy Dave wouldn't let me play out on the bouncy pad at the valley the other week.
Lots of injuries when they first came out in the seventies, including me...knocked out cold in a coming together of heads.

I really don’t get the negativity regarding Bouncezilla or what ever it is called. It is to celebrate their 40th so what says birthday party more than a cheesy bouncy castle? They haven’t charged extra so what’s the problem? Don’t like it? Don’t go on it? Went on it and don’t like it? Don’t go on it again. Simples

Dont say you actually believe that? It was just a 40 th anniversary logo slapped on at the last minute. Have a look at other (smaller, too) parks around Europe to see how parks celebrate 40 years when they can be bothered

The reason these events are put on is to give a summer boost, they do them every year. It's fine, but becomes a bit of a joke when they start advertising them as the big new thing while the rest the park goes down the plug hole. The state the park is in is obviously the reason people are annoyed

Anyway, hopefully Thorpe are planning for the future and starting to steadily climb back up this season..?

The negativity is because it's been 7 years since anything decent was added to the park.

Speaking of rubbish additions to Thorpe Park.

The 2nd Angry Birds movie is released on 2nd August (yeah, I can’t believe this is a thing either).

Since the park has a themed area to this IP it seems mad that there doesn’t appear to be any plans for a tie in/promotion/special event over the summer to make use of this. It’s a missed opportunity to capitalise on increased awareness of the brand for that important family market (if they are bothered about families this week).

It’s perfectly clear the park have been directionless and stagnant in the last 5+ years, with the park appealing to market x one year and market a thr next. There is a distinct lack of character, purpose and product coherence.

It’s perfectly clear the park lack the funding and dedication to have pulled off a proper “park anniversary” event. Some parks are decorated in striking banners and styling with major events held. Others receive hefty new attractions and park-wide TLC, with some even holding expos etc.

Thorpe on the other hand pretty much did the bare minimum (probably because they had null budget) and just gave us a large bouncy castle and limited edition merch.

The park could’ve really pushed their anniversary year, but they haven’t really done so except in the sense of consumer level.

I do honestly believe that but even if it wasn’t true it’s still an included in the price extra.

So surely an addition, however small which isn’t an up charge has to be a positive thing?

In many ways, I agree. It's certainly better than if Thorpe had done nothing, and it gives people an alternative thing to do instead of riding rides, which people often complain there isn't enough of at Merlin parks. So in a way, BounceZilla is Merlin responding to people's criticism of the lack of non-ride activities in its theme parks. I never had a problem with this, personally, as riding rides is a large part of why I go to theme parks, as well as the atmosphere, but if BounceZilla adds more variety to Thorpe's lineup for no extra cost, then I don't see the issue. It doesn't appeal to me at all, but it adds more variety to the park's lineup and surely that can only be a good thing?

If it was in addition to a new coaster it would be a good thing. As a fob off so they've got something to market this year, it's dire.

Well, that's the spin for sure!

The real reason is, like most years, they need a low-cost summer event to boost attendance. As far as Thorpe Park's summer events go, this is one of the better ones, but the park is overall in the gutter. Some people are pushing this bouncy castle as something that it isnt

Thorpe management adding BounceZilla as an attempt to improve the park.
