Thorpe Park: General Discussion

How does the new ‘Minds Wanted Inc’ narrative fit with the existing VR storyline of fracking and escaped gas?
I’m not entirely sure; maybe they’re treating the whole thing as some hypnotic mind game concocted by Derren Brown or something, kind of like a dream?

Maybe just stick a big 2D laminated sign that says “nothing makes sense, it’s meant to be like that” and then it’s quality entertainment for all the family

I actually really liked the original uniforms for the ride so it's a shame to see them disappear, to be I was one of the few who liked the whole story and theme from the start.

As for them now changing said story, I'm not sure how this has been done as the story is only told through the VR about the gas etc so if the VR hasn't been changed that means the story is the same?

The story and theme is fine, the execution isn't. And this redo will do nothing to fix that.

For anyone curious about the Ghost Train changes, here's an update from the MAP Holders group. (Would post a screenshot to give the original author credit, but I'm not in the group, someone just sent over the text. So whoever originally wrote this, cheers!)

For anyone like me interested in the Ghost Train changes at Thorpe Park... don't get too excited. As for anyone with any concerns over Covid... stay away. I'll summarise:
* The headsets: I had no audio and my partner had to look behind herself and up to be looking 'straight'. She was told, "yeah just look there then."
* The story changes are literally just some more words spoken before you boarded the train, it was straight over my head.
* The first room and gift shop haven't changed.
* The VR hasn't changed other than an 'error message' appearing near the end.

As for Covid...
* The first 2 rooms before the train was fine, there were markers on the floor that were followed.
* The trains had at least 2 headsets between each group, 1st time everyone sits on 1 side of the train then after the tunnel the other side.
* The tunnel was a mess, staff were actively shouting at people to hurry up and rush (as per normal but it encouraged groups to merge).
* Returning to the train ended up in a stampede, it was genuinely the most unsafe I have felt since Covid began and I work frontline on public transport. Staff were actively making people run back so training to keep space was useless.
I know it's a long post but just wanted to clear this up for anyone who's interested about the attraction's return. There's a reason it didn't open at all last year. It probably still shouldn't be open now...

So it's a bit of a mixed bag. The new 'story' seems a bit last minute. Having seperate sides for the two VR sections works, but I do wonder what happens if (when) the headsets fail, as they are wont to do. And as for the live action scenes - yeah, doesn't sound safe. Not in any rush to give this a go.

That'd explain the need to reserve a time slot then, it's probably running with about a third of the seats in use, then there'll be increased turnaround times whilst they clean the headsets.

All seems a bit of a waste of time really, though I guess (unlike NST) they feel they've thrown too much money at it to just give up on it entirely.

If you do want to ride DBGT, I’d suggest reserving a spot at the start of the day - I was there yesterday with the park very quiet indeed and even then tickets had “sold out” as the app describes it by 1130.

Probably is running at a third of normal capacity yet still, it seems, they can't even get a third of the head sets working.

We (already) have a POV...

It looks cool, but confusing. :p

It looks like a fun house...
Yeah it basically is just a glorified fun house with a horror story. The interactive element is interesting but limited by what you give them (name and photo). My other worry is that capacity is awful: 40 groups per hour so probably somewhere around 100pph depending on your luck.

In line with DBGT @130 pph

In case anyone's wondering, today was the VIP Press Event, and it opens to the public tomorrow. :)

Also, Shaun shows how interactive element works in his vlog:
