To be honest I think it "broke down" on purpose - its the press evening, its another story for them to promote the ride - its not bad publicity, its just hype such as The Swarms - 'It took my legs off' - I think this is the case

I think it just makes the whole affair look completely amateur.

It's in the same position the car was in for the training of offloading guests on the lift hill.

Reporters were just used in place of test dummies (although they seem more cooperative than reporters).

I doubt it broke down on purpose just to get it mentioned in the paper. It's a sad time to be an enthusiast if the only way our new attractions can get people interested is by being broken down, halfway up a lift hill.

Anyway, I hope it's fixed by Thursday. :(

"We can't build a wooden coaster because people think they're unsafe, so let's promote our new steel coaster by telling people it broke down. Then people will think steel coasters are unsafe and we'll never have to build a coaster again!"

Perhaps they're being clever and don't actually want all these people to ride it, but have said they will let them ride it as otherwise it's bad PR...only to pretend it's broken ;)

Ride isn't ruined by bad reviews or accused of being boring...people still intrigued.

Oh, probably not, but I like to think they're being clever just because I don't want there to be an actual problem when I ride it myself!

As far as I understand it, it genuinely broke and it genuinely broke in quite a serious way.

When I first read these articles, I thought the concerns some people had with the testing video showing the ride's very slow movement around some inversions had become quite real and that the thing had actually become stuck upside-down with riders on it - that would have been a real problem.

This...I doubt it is anything too serious. Rides ALWAYS have technical problems in the early stages of their operation. Opening press events, if they want to take place before the ride opening, will always run the risk of going ahead in a riskier time availability-wise, but they will of course go ahead and host them anyway as the publicity is good either way. Wasn't the breakdown situation with Saw much worse?

Guess who is currently looking after the kids in wobble world?

Dr Kelman!!!!!!!

Don't know how to upload a photo to prove it though :(

Guess they had to give him something to do before the big opening.

Wow. What a coincidence…

The Smiler realised that it could do nothing for the shallow vacuous shells of idiots that were on it, so decided it could not marmalise them, so broke itself on purpose.

The guy who plays Dr K worked for Alton Towers entertainments team before he was Dr K, ents run wobble-world so he is often in there.

Don't expect Dr Kelman to be wandering around the Smiler, I get the feeling those videos where intended to move the story away from The Sanctuary.
