2023: The Curse at Alton Manor
I wouldn't say I was blown away by The Curse, it's decent, and I would hazard a guess that - if you were to do the market research - it'd probably receive similar ratings from the general public as Duel in 2003, and the Haunted House in 1992. I give it a 6/10, my girlfriend rated it a 4...- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2023
I know that people sometimes unleash this sort of overhasty statement as a way to provoke reaction and without really meaning it, but if Alton don't announce at least two new mazes this year, I genuinely won't be going to Scarefest, which will be only the second time I haven't visited for...- LLCorkscrew

2023: The Curse at Alton Manor
I like scoring things out of 10, although there are lots of sub metrics for a ride of this nature - the brand, theme, story, soundtrack, attention to detail, frights, re-rideability, etc. I'll give it a 6.5 / 10. My girlfriend gave it a 6. I'll be v interested to see what other friends and...- LLCorkscrew

The Retrosquad: General Discussion
I did Twisatron today for the first time. It's a 3/10 flat ride IMO, so I was disappointed. Spinjam remains my favourite in the squad, whilst Mixtape was decent too. I do ride Spinjam every time I go cos I do think it's a genuinely fun ride. Agree with the consensus that permanent, quality...- LLCorkscrew

Which ride would you bring back?
Dynamo. Severely underrated by the general public, yet a brilliant ride when run to its potential. I get the calls for Ripsaw too, that could be fantastic.- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2023
That's a brilliant synopsis of the maze, particularly as you never experienced it. I did it about 10 times and wouldn't be able to describe it that well. I never remember biting though, not sure that would be allowed. It was a very good maze; I'd rate it as 8/10, it was probably the most...- LLCorkscrew

2023: General Discussion
That's a bit ott. These things don't happen too often at Alton. We don't know how many times they've spotted this sort of thing, or how well they do on other metrics, to jump to such an assertion. I find calling for people to lose their job very distasteful, particularly when said people are...- LLCorkscrew

[2023] The Curse at Alton Manor
Same - I loved the Haunted House, but I am one of the few enthusiasts that thought Duel was good too. It had its own little charm, and the ride soundtrack was brilliant. I'm excited to see what they do with the ride's soundtrack actually - will they bring back some of the older tracks? Some...- LLCorkscrew

The Retrosquad: General Discussion
Spinjam is a good ride, and better than some of the permanent flats they've had over the years. Mixtape was alright too. The other two aren't the best. They're much better than nowt. I'm still hoping for a new Top Spin in 2024 when Nemesis re-opens.- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2023
The event felt very stale this year, and with the exception of 2014 where there were only two mazes, it was the weakest event since Scarefest's inaugural year in 07. 2015 saw the introduction of two new mazes, however, so hopefully it'll get a similar refresh next year. I'm convinced this is...- LLCorkscrew

Least Favourite inventions of the 21st Century
Like someone else said, automated chat. It rarely provides the help you need, and if something's gone wrong with your order, it makes you even more irritated. Mobiles have pros and cons, and I get the point about not being able to switch off, but they're great for convenience and fantastic...- LLCorkscrew

[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation
I love this voice-over, I guess because of nostalgic reasons as his announcements were used for many years, but yes, Alton re-recorded the operational announcements a few years back (I think it was the previous Ents manager). The script is exactly the same, the newer ones are a bit more 'on...- LLCorkscrew

[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation
NEMESIS. Once chained, now untameable. I love the previous announcements recorded by (I presume) Tussauds Studios - the Ents team re-recorded a few of the operational ones in-house a few years ago ("Nemesis is experiencing a temporary delay, and has ceased operation...") and they weren't as...- LLCorkscrew

[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation
As a few have said, I hope that the Nemesis music remains, it really is a masterpiece, but I fear that's something that may change. They could record it again though with a live orchestra as long as it's not overdone. If it isn't the ride profile itself (and why mess with near perfection), then...- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2022
It was their first time - they thought they were all pretty good, and there were a few jumps in each. Darkest Depths probably received the best reviews, overall, although I wouldn't say they were blown away by any of the mazes.- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2022
It's all very subjective, but since its inception in 2016, I'd have it easily top two, and probably first, out of the mazes during that period. Sub Species would be the other. I think it has always been highly regarded on these forums too.- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2022
I went today. Mine Tours is still probably the best for me. The Invitation is poor - I appreciate the work that will have gone into the audio piece but that alone doesn't make a good scare experience. The other people in the group - new to mazes - took a LOT of convincing to do the other three...- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2022
Yeh, they're never going to get it 100% right, and I guess a maze is a bit trial and error as some things are hard to forecast - how guests respond, how actors interact with real guests, timings & cues, etc., and they'll probably make tweaks as the event progresses. TOTT 2007 had some...- LLCorkscrew

Scarefest 2022
Grammar-wise it's spot-on, isn't it? The attraction itself, however, sounds pretty poor. We may be surprised though! Given that Thorpe have a similar experience with the same supplier, I'm guessing that this was a Merlin decision? It sounds like Alton's Ents team have their hands tied a...- LLCorkscrew

Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion
I did Hex for the first time this year, today. I enjoyed it, but it's still not at its best: + the lighting is good throughout + Octagon effects were working as well as I ever remember - and the narrative is very clear and loud in this room, better than any of the other scenes + queueline...- LLCorkscrew
