    Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2024 Discussion

I had to set up an eTicket for someone I took with me one day last year, who isn't a coaster enthusiast, maybe he last went a decade ago. It was not an easy or straightforward thing to do, and I'd like to think I'd be able to manage that kind of thing (both from working in IT and as an...

    What car do you drive?

I'm one model up from your Picanto @MattN, with a Kia Rio (diesel) from 2010, I bought it new and it's (touch wood) not really had a breakdown yet. Just ticked over to 100k miles last week. Big enough for my needs, powerful enough and responsive enough for some good driving (especially when the...

[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

Breaking news: Hyperia turns out to be a 236ft tall Zamperla Volare

100% this. It's a 5-6 hour drive from Blackpool, and for me there isn't really all that much there - besides Megafobia - to make me want to do that drive more than once a decade. Speed rides awfully and seems to usually run on 1 train, the rest of the coasters are really old family/kids models.

    Drayton Manor Park

A larger board where the train looks like it has burst through the middle, like on the Swarm, would have looked better. This just looks a bit odd how it's missing part of the outer frame by the square cutout and one of its supports.

    Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2024 Discussion

Icon was closed due to wind as well this morning, I left around 1pm so I guess the wind dropped enough to at least get it open. It was very windy, surprised Steeplechase was open.

    Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2024 Discussion

There's loads of room in the park. Perhaps RMC they'd struggle but with things like B&M and Intamin, and to a certain extent Mack and Vekoma, with how their track support structures are these days (a few columns with the track being pretty well at supporting, vs Arrow style box truss...

Food & Beverage: The Aramark Era begins

Burger King are Coke, KFC are Pepsi, at any park they are at, so at BPB (Pepsi park) you can get Coke from the Burger King. However, yes I'd expect that selling coke in a Pepsi branded cup is breaking some sort of contract they have.

[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

I think the biggest reason behind the "it's too short" is that when you've got a hyper coaster you expect a decent amount of track following to "use up" the potential energy, rather than 45 seconds then slam into brakes. So I do think it looks short, but it also looks like it'll be very good. I...

    Merlin Pass Help

I've had a pass for a few years and never found that I can't pre-book, a lot of visits I've decided the night before. It'll sell out for things like Nemesis opening weekend, I'd expect Hyperia opening to also sell out. But random dates with nothing significant happening are unlikely to.

Good question, but - answers must be in the format of a sand paper grit value. I'll go with a P60.

    Ride Availability/Operations 2022-24

It's called Thirteen because that's the total number of days per year it opens without problems 😆 Annoying because when it's running properly on all three trains it moves the queue at a decent rate, if you can get it before the trims are put on then the coaster section is quite fun, and the...

    Drayton Manor Park

Ironic thing being that a surf board theme would have worked better when it was a stand up coaster 😁

Would they manage ops better, though? You only have to look at the state of the ride availability at Towers to think... do we really want the same at BPB? Besides the opening day mess, and excluding rides closed for maintenance at both parks, ride availability feels much better to me at BPB than...

    Forbidden Valley: Future Changes?

Lack of sockets at this stage doesn't really mean anything - without seeing inside to see if the electrical installation has been completed, they could have just not installed them yet. They'd be installed once the wall is complete, as they'll be surface mounted weatherproof sockets, so just...

    Drayton Manor Park

Yeah looking at the upstop wheels on the old trains, smaller wheels and the metal part is in the centre rather than the bottom. Oh dear.

Food & Beverage: The Aramark Era begins

I didn't know the ABV of everything we sold when I worked on a bar in 2007, however if I was asked (and there was nobody else working with me that knew) I'd have the initiative to look on the bottle/can (if bottle/can) or, if there wasn't a clip on the tap showing the information, I'd go look at...

Even if there isn't a button on the till called "shandy" surely you just press "lager 1/2 pint" and "lemonade 1/2 pint" (or whatever the closest lemonade size is) and off you go, serve them in the same glass. Not difficult.

    2024: General Discussion

It's a little surprising given that Thorpe Park allows people to take photos at the top of the lift walks (with a phone that is secured). BPB originally (2013) only allowed secured cameras (e.g. a camera with a strap round your neck), although now allow phones too, which should be securely in a...
