2016: General Discussion
Not sure on that one, Phil.
I've had a message from @Poisson to say that the Skyride is apparently closed.
Yes the Skyride was definitely closed today.
Also the ERT was terrible. Arrived early and was one of the very first person to get in. Got to Oblivion and was told that they wasn't sure what time it would open as the engineers haven't been over to check it and sign it off.
So our options was Enterprise or CBeebies land.
At 9.30 I went over to Spinball to be told that they wasn't sure what time it would open as the engineers haven't been over to check it and sign it off.
Went back to the X sector and Oblivion was still not open. About 9.50 I joined the Smiler queue. The Smiler open at 10 and I got my first ride of the day.
Came off the Smiler and Oblivion was still closed.
I went over to Rita (time was about 10.20 by this time) and was told that Rita was down. Went to Th13teen to be told that it was not working.
Later on that day I went to guest services which was a complete waste of time. They were aware of the rides not being signed off for ERT and this was due to the fact the the engineers was trying to get the Smiler open for 10am.
If you ask me, I felt that this was deliberate due to the fact the park was very quiet today, many unhappy guest during the ERT.
On the plus side, the park was very quiet and all the rides were walks on's.
I can see why they don't run skyride on quite days, however have they done a study on how it affect disabled guests.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of my wife's medical condition, she is not allowed on any rides including the Sky ride. So usually I have to wheel her in her wheelchair all over the park regardless if the Skyride is open or not. The same applies to the monorail. She only goes to the park for me to ride the rides, she sits and feeds the ducks!

I think closed rides could be a theme of 2016. Historically Towers have been very good when it comes to getting rides open and ensuring that they stay open. But budgets have clearly been cut all over the place and technical services are no doubt one of these areas. They're having to service the same number of major coasters but probably with less time and less staff. It's a pity.

the whole idea of cable cars (in general) is transportation!Remember, Alton's official response in the past when people have complained about the Skyride being closed has always been:
"The Skyride is not intended for transport. It is a family attraction in it's own right."

That's a good start, 2 days in a fault causes a ride to be closed all day.
It is possible that they may have been using a quiet day to do some Skyride evac training. Unsure if this was the reason for the closure on Monday though, could have been other technical issues.

Your poor daughter! My kids laugh at me holding on for dear life. A couple of years ago it stopped on a windy day and swayed back and forth right above the valley and I dived on the floor with Terror. My boys and another family who were on with us thought it was hilarious! My daughter is the same. So when i go get her on it, i play "don't look down" from bivvy![]()

Yes I agree the sky ride is terrifyingI prefer to walk it. Love the gardens and I need the exercise. Plus I find the Skyride the most terrifying ride in the park!

Don't even start on that. Its scarier than apocalypse at dmp for me.I love it when it stops between FV and DF over the valley, the bounce is incredible.
