I can't believe how much the SW8 marketing campaign exactly mirrors that of The Smiler.
I can.....

Insanely poor 'surprised/concerned' posing from the extra in the cage.

The acting of the woman impersonating being a londener on her phone is fantastic.

Regarding misjudged advertising ideas what's happened with the YouTube series for the new ride. Just one episode and nothing since, was actually looking forward to seeing some filming from inside the building site.
You've answered your own question in there.

Is this going to be like the Smiler's logo and start appearing all over the park within the coming weeks?
Another thing is that I am staggered at the difference in enthusiasm levels between the Alton Towers forums and other theme park forums. On CoasterForce Forum, for example, many members are saying about what a missed opportunity the ride is and how this isn't the woodie that Alton deserved.

That isn't wrong it would have been much better if they had got planning permission for the original cross-valley woodie, but noise issues was one of the things that stopped it. Then there are the rumours of a woodie in Forbidden Valley (station where Blade is) which may have been better than SW8, but the Smiler incident and guest number uncertainty made them go for a cheaper option of the Flume site.
Therefore why not just be thankful for what we are getting, the first new wooden coaster in the UK for 25 years. Yes it could have been better, but we could also have got nothing at all!
