Got to be honest I don't get this political/economic marketing. Sure do your own research about what you think your potential visitors are going to be spending their money on in 2019 but use that research to develop a well thought out marketing campaign based around the merits of your attraction.

Many people are fed up of hearing about Brexit so the last thing they will want to see is a theme park, a place for fun and escapism, to be going on about it!
 
Is there even a source to suggest this figure? Feels like it was just a random number thought up on the spot

Alton Towers commissioned the research to be done. So there will be a source, they just paid for it and haven’t published the full results.

Although at least Thorpe have had a crack with the Winter BTS videos.

It's Government spin, based on back of a fag packet calculations and completely unverifiable, so yeah basically, a random number thought up on the spot.

Wasn't it a certain Austrian who once said if you tell a lie over and over enough times, eventually people will just blindly believe it?
 
Since when did Wetherspoons' very own Tim Martin gain a position within Towers' marketing team?
I wish he was in charge. There is no top business man that I trust more than to deliver quality and value and put his customers first.

Only place to charge McDonald's prices, whilst delivering great drinks and reasonable quality food in decent quantities.

Some of his pubs are spectacular and appear to have benefited from a great deal of investment, but he still charges what you pay to eat crap out of cardboard at Maccie D,s.

The man is a genius.

Exactly, if there is actual proof that is what they found out, that's one thing. However, if this is not true, you are being lied to
 
What industry has ever had a year on year spending increase of over 80%? Common sense could surely tell you it's not realistic to expect such a rapid increase in spending.

Its going to be hard to explain to shareholders why they weren't able to sell twice as many tickets, if the market size has doubled and their market share has remained approximately the same.

Very good point! The closed season is absolutely flying by; I'm so excited for the start of the 2019 season! Although the fact that I'm flying to Florida just over 2 weeks later might partially contribute to that...

Well..... If they don't improve the product or add more attractions the great British public won't be spending this money at alton towers or any other merlin attraction. They are not total mugs. 2018 was a good year for alton towers and I imagine it's merlins most visited attraction for 2018. Why? Wickerman an all round good addition to the park. I imagine the new dungeons will create a bit of interest but a reopened n:st would have really added some excitement!
 
Alton Towers have confirmed on Twitter that Sub Terra won't reopen this year.
When are thorpe park going to follow suit with an announcement about DBGT a similar white elephant if not worse! Oh ........ but it's near London we don't want to upset the folks in the south east. Who cares about those up north!
