2019: Rulantica

Awesome, thanks! I love to swim so definitely will enjoy the wave pool and some of the other pools too.
 
Is it a virtual queue and if not im curious why they haven't tried a virtual queues for the slides (like Volcano bay). That would alleviate the annoying waits because you can chill on a sun lounger until it's your turn.

No it is not virtual queue, and virtual queues are what caused endless amounts of problems when Volcano Bay opened. All they do is cause the rest of the water park to become busier; they are not required.

They don't really need to reduce capacity IMO. All that's needed is to operate the 2 biggest slides more efficiently and to speed up payment at the end of the day. Everything else coped fine, even in winter with the outdoor areas all but unusable.

Maybe they need to reduce capacity in the short term until they can work out all the kinks with the 2 most popular slides and the payment system.

I won't be going until September but from what I have read they have done a great job but a few things do need to be tweaked. That isn't surprising since this is the Macks first foray into a waterpark. I'm sure they are learning a lot based on the feedback of guests. I would also think in the summer they may be able to accommodate more guests with the outdoor area available for loungers and more people using the outdoor pool.

I can't wait to go and see Rulantica and Europa Park as this is my first trip there ever! I only just heard about Europa Park as I live in the US but I'm super excited!
 
To be honest, it wasn't like it was horrendous. It was "full" when we went and everything bar paying at 10.15pm, Vinter Rytt and Svalgur Rytt was fine.

Bravo to EP for recognising the issue and reacting in a way that’s clearly going to impact revenue, but improve guest experience. Very EP.

As others have said, I do think the primary issue is the length of slide queues, rather than any other area feeling overly busy. It’s perhaps a little churlish to say, but the obvious way of dealing with that issue is to build more headline slides. They’re needed, both to thin the queues and to truly make Rulantica a standout destination.

Interestingly, if you look at the full project plan for Rulantica it looks like it has a number of slides that have more of a 'loop design' as opposed to a start and finish one. By that, I mean starting and finishing in the same place.

Perhaps we will see some bigger and more interesting concepts come to life in the next few phases.

The other issue I have read about is the number of loungers available or the lack of good storage near slides for towels, phones, clothes... I can see why this would make people upset when people claim loungers early in the day and are in the pools for most of the day.

That might improve guest satisfaction as well as having more slides. But as you mentioned I think there are expansion plans for Rulantica to add more. So that would help assuming they didn't then add a lot more people to the park.
 
The official rule on loungers is that you are not to reserve them. That of course is not enforced and towels are left on many of the lounges throughout the day.

There are certainly a lot of loungers, but some were crammed in to some less than ideal spots. I'd imagine that this will become less of a problem in the summer when people will be able to utilise more loungers outside.
 
The thing is though you want to leave your towel on a lounger and keep going back to it to have a rest throughout the day. That's just what people do.
 
There were quite a few loungers available when we were there, as too tables for eating. There were also pigeon hole-type cupboards by the slides for storing water shoes or any other paraphernalia you may want. I don’t really see the appeal of lounging in an indoor water park - the fact that it’s inside means it’s too loud to properly relax.

I think one of the more pleasant spaces was the bar stools at the second floor bar in Ragnakor. There’s a great view of the water park, an adjacent bar and not too much in the way of attractions for kids to be flying past every two minutes. Top tip!
 
We found there was great capacity in the restaurants, to be honest. And you are right - I don't get why people would want to lounge for long. When it's summer, maybe - outside. But inside, nah!
