[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

I have wonder which I'm sure I've mentioned that they pushed back PH in order to kill off three birds with one stone in which not only get the ride built but also retheme TWODW (surely that IP doesn't have long to live if there is a year limit on like with Charlie?) But also do something with the Dungeons building which would all help create a much larger area to tie in with PH.

I suspect that they might have had it in the back of their mind Universal was coming and held PH off to see what might happen and the fact Universal is happening means that they know that they'll have to spend big in order to compete as in a whole package idea as what Katanga Canyon and Gloomy Wood were in 1992 which were to compete with DLP prior before opening so history might repeat here maybe?

I hope your right.

The potential of the area remains enormous.

Large generic quick service restaurant
Dungeons - Existing potential 1000pph boat ride with further space inside.
4D cinema - Existing theatre space suitable for stage show or cinema setup
Gangsta Granny - Modern family dark ride system (maybe due for replacement after 8/10 year agreement)
Existing Nickelodeon building - Empty indoor space could be food and beverage offer (would make good coffee shop)
Driving school - Movable children’s attraction
Existing former Peugeot building - single story building which would make a good retail space
Towers ruins background and entrance portal through towers wall.
Project Horizon building - large standalone building suitable for a significant indoor roller coaster, which doesn’t currently exist at the resort

On top of all that is MMM Studio space that may be available. But there should more than enough opportunity in the items mentioned above to make a great area. And finally finally make an area that sticks. That isn’t Universal, distinctly British, distinctly unique, distinctly Alton.

Sir Algenon steam punk… (prays)

Good ideas never die…
Aye, double lift hill from SW1 became part of Smiler, the Cross Valley wooden coaster of FV wooden coaster would all culminate in Wicker Man and the original Hex elevator idea going down to the vault would find its way on Sub Terra are just some of the few ideas that have been used again over the years so it wouldn't be far fetched if old ideas are brought back and not forgotten that infamous fake Jazz Land plan which bares a striking resemblance to PH. This is frankly the same what Disney have done with their parks in which ideas that weren't possible 10 or 20 years prior find a way coming back to life so a Port Discovery or rather steampunk theme wouldn't be out of the question for Towers.

No Flying Theatre? For that reason, I’m out.

I'd certainly say that the Dungeons can be two separate attractions

One for the boat ride which could go through it's old circuit or have a drop added to the ride similar to Piraten in Batavia.

The other would be the simulators which could accommodate two groups of people at once. I'd reroute the exit so it doesn't go through the Boat Ride section.

That would be a win win situation for Towers.

A Flying Theatre would add capacity to the park, here's What I would do with Wodw, Project Horizon and Dungeons Boat Ride

Retheme it to a land based on the Towers and new mystical stories where your imagination makes your visit special, this is good because allows the area to have different themes and feels.

As for rides keep
Crown Carousel solid enough name for a Carousel.
Cuckoo Cars Driving School also remain but have the layout added on the other side reinstated currently its blocked off for some reason.
Relocate Raj's/Frog Hopper to the front of the area inbetween the Entrance portal and Raj's Shop
Retheme Gangsta Granny into a London Tour Dark Ride

Additional rides
As for additions I reckon a Zamperla Nebulz would fit perfectly where flavio's used to be good family flat ride.
Open the 4D theatre as a generic Theatre that way its adaptable into different things. But make it more grand with a Red, Gold, Blue colour scheme.
Use Nickelodeon Outta Control building for a Flying Theatre or 360 Theatre, based around the Towers history and passed rides.
Project Horizon have it be based on space make it a space station, as for the ride make it either a Vekoma spinning coaster like Guardians or Intamin Multi Dimension.
And the Dungeons that always worked as a factory theme maybe a certain Toyland Tours reimagined and with completely different scenes throughout with a new core Character maybe Alton Bear home.

As for Additions:
Keep Newsagents/Local store would still fit a London themed attraction
Reopen the old Ice Age Shop as maybe a Meet n Greet area.
Slurp and Burp Cafe as a restaurant once again.

That would be my dream for the area, but hopefully we do get redevelopment of the area along with Project Horizon soon

I think bigger plans are afoot for Project Horizon than was originally intended. It was not replaced by Reborn as the major investment, because they were in development simultaneously.

I suspect that PH has been the first addition where the new management didn’t think the scale of the project was what was needed for the park to evolve and it’s been thrown back to the drawing board. I have a feeling that PH is going to be part of a wider redevelopment of that corner of the park.

If they redeveloped the whole land, this could be the first expansion we’ve seen from Alton Towers in decades, an addition where they can increase park capacity by several thousand guests a day.

It would be really silly to give all the expansion investment to Chessington and not give their biggest theme park the same treatment. Although Towers isn’t London, the catchment area is still really strong. If they built a development that is more than just thrill rides and more of an immersive area and capture some of the public consciousness that Universal is already pulling then the park has something large they can tap into. Not the normal, coaster by coaster investment.
