I'm not sure why Peel can't fund it themselves, they are absolutely loaded.Peel are still working with site developers and funders, as of July, according to the BBC. Personally, I'm not feeling too confident about it.

Peel are cracking on with building new residential on the land beside the ship canal so they could definitely fund it themselves if wanted.
There’s also a new ice rink to be constructed opposite the ski slope.
I remain quietly confident the surf pool will happen just much later.
On a side note, I’ve just gotten back from Tokyo and a ride on Thunder Dolphin has made me decide that the Trafford Centre really needs an Intamin hyper coaster

It's certainly an odd place for it, there is another one planned for Southport. The Snowdonia one was also in a stupid location. You would think that they would be better placed nearer to where the surfers are, can't imagine there are many in TraffordConsidering the Snowdonia one shut last year, I can’t see people queuing up to fund the thing.
Yes Peel have money, but they’re pretty risk averse - and the surf lagoon isn’t a guaranteed success.

There’s a massive water sports centre and lake just two junctions down the motorway from the Trafford Centre. Probably ten minutes away.
Sale waterpark? The indoor waterpark make sense but the surf centre doesn't.There’s a massive water sports centre and lake just two junctions down the motorway from the Trafford Centre. Probably ten minutes away.

After some ground clearing occurring last year and then a seeming pause in any further progress, local media are now reporting that a main contractor is due to be appointed this week. Full buildout costs have apparently risen from £250m to £400m, with a start on site for the main works expected before the end of the year.
On the face of it, another delay, but appointing a main contractor is as close a confirmation that this will now actually get off the ground. It’s unclear whether the appointment is for pre-construction, with the main contract to follow, or whether it’s a full design and build contract that’s due to be signed. The latter would give you more hope.
Either way, I now expect this thing isn’t going to open until at least 2028.

It already is!
My most hated bit of motorway.
Looking forward myself though, lots of play stuff in the area now.
Thankfully I work from home 4 days a week and work in the City the other. I don't go to the Trafford all that much these days but I will absolutely get passes for our family when this opens.

The whole motorway network around Manchester is a pain.
But the 60/61 merge is always a pain, six am to bedtime!
That merge has stopped me visiting the Trafford centre on at least a dozen occasions.
Not going to queue on the motorway for half an hour just to get to the shops!
Things will only get worse as more attractions arrive on an already really congested area.

I was up there last weekend - it’s the same then. When I visit the office as well it’s the same so it is a 7 day a week problem.
Not sure what can be done to improve it though.
Add a few more lanes, the Kearsley spur (Worsley braided interchange apparently!) already has the British record for the number of lanes in parallel...18!
I blame the A666(M)...but I would.
Back on topic, I am keen to visit when this opens, but for many people in the north west, getting there by car, at most times of the day, especially at the weekends, is going to be really tricky.

I don’t disagree Rob. Intriguingly the traffic problems don’t seem to deter visitors at the moment though, evidenced by this every same traffic problems.
There have been some improvements made to the junctions around Barton Square, but another large scale attraction there is going to cause even more CARnage.

Exactly.
I trust this will have its own parking?
We all have no excuse really of course...goodish public transport links and all that.
Just looked at the usual morning traffic, it all comes down to three lanes of the M61 going down to a single lane, and the cross country motorway, and the Manchester ringroad, all being thrown into the mix within a few miles of the site.
That and a bloody great bridge to slow the motorway down.
One answer apparently would be to close most of the minor junctions down, and keep the motorway traffic exclusive in the area for about ten miles around, separate from the a road system.
One turn off alone for all the Trafford traffic, access being by the local a roads otherwise.
