360 HD Tour of Alton Towers

Aaah, nothing like basking in the 360 HD tour of the popular, charming and immersive Sonic Spinball as the first ride area! :p Great find, Ben.!

Ahhh, those are stunning! How did you find them?! :D

I expect we'll be seeing these used as promotional material for corporate clients soon, gorgeous!

I urge everyone to have a look at the ones inside the towers too, which are multiple levels and have a little layout plan to help too!

Thanks everyone, and to be honest, I searched for them trying to find out the layout for TOTT, but I think this is where I'm going to be living until march.

Your addiction to TotT worries me, Ben ;) But at least this search produced a good result :p

I love how on the Ripsaw photo pretty much 99% of the people in the image is looking up at ripsaw and no one seems bothered by the camera!

Very good find, its all very interesting.

The Rita 1 panorama has definitely been manipulated. If you look, there's a train launching as another one's cresting the first hill.

I assume that the camera takes all its pictures at the same time so I'm not sure how this would be possible without it.

I suspect that's just due to the way the individual photos that make up the image have been stitched together, it's probably two shots of the same train taken a few seconds apart.

Yeah 360 panorama's are generally taken either with a fisheye lens (nearly 180 degree perspective) or a similarly wide angle lens. The photographer stands at a central point and takes sufficient pictures to cover every aspect of the area. With shutter speed/aperture/ISO/white balance settings locked, the images are then all later stitched together by specialised software to create the 360 virtual environment. With moving objects obviously it's going to be unavoidable that there'll be some discrepancies in the images. :)

Cool! I really love "Air 1", not just because Air on a sunny day is brilliant, but because on this particular day, the ride staff were so efficient that all three trains were in the same block. ;)

Layout for TotT is easy

- Start is Wax work room (right of conservatory)
- everything pre the crouch tunnel (and Sanctuary first corridor) is the T gallery
- Rubble room is Long gallery
- House seen is Family Dining Room
- Monk corridor and banquet scene are the banqueting hall
- you go down to the Lower level corridor
- old Butlers Pantry is the wooden panel and body bag scene
- Ground floor of West Wing is the strobe maze
