Well they sort-of are subject to democracy. If an anti-royal party won a majority in an election, they could simply put through a bill to abolish the monarchy. Maybe not in the past, but in this day and age it would go through, as it'd cause a democratic outrage and constitutional crisis if it didn't.
The Royal Family are in place because they still have broad popular support - if they didn't at some point in the future, they'd have to go.
Anyway, sorry, we're meant to be congratulating this baby for having the luck of being born into an obscene and disgusting amount of privilege and wealth.
