Blackpool Central Redevelopment
Yes I'm fond of it, it's also a decent arcade with good machines, I hope the new site makes more of an effort ambiance wise though. Its demolition was part of the original plans. It then seemed like those plans were later changed to retain it.
Seemingly there’s another change of plan to move the amusements now. It’d be a shame to lose that building - it’s quite a unique architectural asset.
I'm slightly skewed by the fact I proposed to my fiancée in there.

Pictures or else its not true lolMeant to post this earlier...above ground construction has actually begun.
Six storey staircase has shot up on the south east corner of the site...nothing else, just an obvious stair column for the new multi storey car park.
Thrilling stuff...stay tuned for the next exciting instalment soon.

The next stage after the car park is the redevelopment of the properties on Central Drive. Unless they’re waiting for leases to end, I don’t see any reason that they can’t be on with this now subject to planning. I do not however believe they’ve actually out and full application in for this.
Either way, this part of the development doesn’t take up any of the car parking spaces, so it’s curious and perhaps a little worrying that there appears to be little movement on it.

A question by the local Tory MP at PMQs today about Blackpool Central and specifically the funding for relocation of the Crown Court building on the site. I hadn’t until now realised that this was a blocker.
Sunak confirmed that they are looking at this now, with the heavy inference that it was a done deal and the funding/relocation would happen. News is apparently going to be coming very soon.
Hopefully this will mean we’ll see some more movement and news about the next steps of the wider development soon.

"I'd like to thank my right honourable friend for broaching this issue, and I'm sure I can unite the entirety of the house in saying that this government is galvanised by the prospect of a Chariots of The Gods flying theatre ride, sometime before 2030."

In a disappointing turn, the developers of the site, Nikal, are imminently going to enter administration:
www.placenorthwest.co.uk
Whilst this doesn’t kill the project, it’s clearly a pretty big blow to progress.

Administration looms for £300m Blackpool Central developer - Place North West
Nikal has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators after a leadership exodus.

Blackpool Council is reported to be in financial difficulties, the town can't catch a break. The government really needs to start getting some sort of plan together for these deprived run down town centres. It can't just be up to local authorities to foot the bill. I'd be worried if the council needs to find a new contractor, costs will only go up.In a disappointing turn, the developers of the site, Nikal, are imminently going to enter administration:

Seems like Blackpool might be a better place to spend some of that £300 million thrown around to "help" Universal out...Blackpool Council is reported to be in financial difficulties, the town can't catch a break. No mate, sorry.
I was one of the last train passengers into Blackpool Central station.
Six years.
Times it by ten...
Nineteen sixty four we have been waiting since, why say six years?
There was the big plan before, and the one before that, and the one before that.
...and quite a few developers have gone bust in the process...funny that isn't it.
The developers manage to drive round in their big cars, living in big houses, with big ideas.
They lose the big ideas, have to send the big car back, but remain in their big houses, as the bomb site remains.
Biggest station (by platforms) to be cut under Beeching, Blackpool was greedy, they had the choice for which station to shut, and they shut the central one, close to the Tower, for the great idea of redevelopment.
Made the punters walk from North station, for their own grand dreams, that will never really happen.
Blackpool used to have around seven million quid in reserves, they are down to seventy grand.
The town is effectively bankrupt.
No more mandy bailouts from local government, and as the Tories aren't in power nationally, she had better watch the purse strings.

You have to think this will affect BPB also. Given the council has historically given the park "a helping hand" when it has been in difficulties - surely the business case for that will fall apart now given their own independent financial issues. And with Mandy continuing to run certain elements of operations at an enormous loss, year on year...who is going to help them now?
