Blackpool Central Redevelopment

Stunning news from the massive redevelopment, that I forgot to post last week on the old gits end of season velvet spoons...

The big new car park...all floors are now fully open.

The stilt road from the motorway now feeds directly into the car park, if you want to get into the local traffic flow, turn off at the football ground.

Sorry, no sign of gods chariots, indoor FEC (love those tla's), bowling, 6d cinema, multi level leisure retail experience, or indeed a massive international food court.

Just a multi storey car park, and er, a flat car park right next to it.

Are the post apocalyptic law courts still standing? Not been for a while and they give off Mad Max VIBES

I did think it's a bit predatory how that road just delivers you directly in to a car park now. If anyone finds themselves in it, they can of course drive straight to the barrier and get out again...

It's pretty ridiculous having a huge car park which is less conveniently located than all the car parks still surrounding it. No doubt by the time anything is done on them the multistorey will be thoroughly bashed up... classic Blackpool.

Yes.
Getting uglier and more brutal by the hour.
The stunning market that sold tat, and strictly only tat, could have lasted another couple of years as well.
And the little road right behind the sealife still has a dozen free parking spaces...but only an hour.

Mon-Sat 9am-6pm - so if you park up at 5pm you are good for the rest of the day. Sundays also unrestricted. There's more on the street that leads down to Central Pier junction.

Also the 1 hr isn't particularly strictly enforced I've found, unlike the 20/40 minute ones elsewhere in Blackpool. I've never seen a ticket on a car except when someone has overshot and ended up in the 'loading only' bay.

Wyre's wardens are absolutely on it in Cleveleys tho.

Although that elevated road from the motorway has pretty much always led towards the car parks and not much else. If you want anything except a car park you needed to turn off much earlier.

You can still drive in through the top of the multistory, then come out of the bottom floor of it to get to the rest of Blackpool. It feels like one of those giftshops at the end of rides where they force you in in the hopes you'll stick around and browse.

It lead you to a surface car park which you could turn straight out of. It was by far the quickest route to the town centre most of the time.

Now there are two literal barriers, two roller shutters and a traverse across several floors of a multistorey car park in the way. It probably is still the quickest route tho.

Do you not have to pay at the exit barriers regardless of actual parking?
You normally can - even if the gates do not automatically open a press of the 'help' button will get the barrier raised (these days the operators can usually see straight away that you've been there a short amount of time; half the time they don't even talk to you).

Whether this is enshrined in law or not I've no idea, and in either case it's completely unadvertised in Blackpool - which is why the arrangment now seems so predatory, to me at least.

The signs make it clear it is to the multi storey only, with no access to the town roads.
Just turn off at the footy ground or sooner, to get to all that free parking!
