Blackpool Central Redevelopment

There have been three buildings to cover the theme park for a while, although I get the distinct impression they don’t actually have a fleshes out concept for what they’ll contain. They have confirmed no coasters though.

Think the only confirmed "ride" at the moment is the flying theatre.

AKA we know that a flying theatre is part of the plans. No other "rides" have been named on the plans yet.
There's some artwork from a much earlier iteration of the plans with a clearly interim theme which shows a ride of that type. In the late 00s there was quite a lot of concept art from Towers showing robocoasters with various themes, that doesn't mean a robocoaster was confirmed tho.

Ahem, the press releases mention a flying theatre too. ;)

The guy (and company) behind the Chariots of the Gods have (allegedly) put up a little funding in advance, so that outline planning can be made for the whole project.
They will run the flying theatre (allegedly/probably), if building actually takes place, after full planning and funding.
The whole thing is speculative, they are looking for investors to take it forward, all that has been agreed for now is further clearance of the site, and a car park, so parking spaces are not lost while the rest of the development takes place.

Planned development of the site has started, and failed, at least three times in the past, about a decade apart each time, all three "developments" have failed, leaving nothing but an uneven "bombsite" car park.

Press releases do not mean something will be built, only that they hope to build them, so it would be more realistic to say that Blackpool Council would like the Flying Theatre and two (must be very small) indoor funfairs to be built, if they can find somebody to invest in the project, because they are on the very skint side of skint.

Bit like the London Resort, less money behind it, but with the thumbs up of the council.

Do not hold your breath for any of it.

The flying theatre is a very long way from "confirmed", in my mind, it probably won't happen at all.

Just a little Blackpool bump on this one...a year on...progress.
New Bonny Street (tat) Market (behind the Sealife), closed at the start of the year, lots of fuss from the stall holders about lack of notice, no new site and so on.
Then they closed the access road to the central car parks for the building of...a car park.
Another six months on, all the stallholders are back on the same stalls, as if nothing had ever happened, as progress on the rest of the site seems to have slowed somewhat.
No sign of the Chariots of the Gods yet.
Or anything else for that matter.

The new museum of the seaside on the prom near the Tower seems to have ground to a halt again as well.
Lights on, but nobody home.
Very Blackpool.

Not one bit surprised tbh. I think it will go ahead but won't be anywhere near as impressive when it opens as the plans made out..

The plan was always for it to be completed in stages. The multi storey being first so that they can then close the surface parking spaces and have an alternative parking facility.

Next phase is allegedly the refurb of the pub and apartments running along Central Drive. Why they can’t start that now though I’m not sure. Perhaps not the best omen.

I’m speculating that they perhaps realised they didn’t need to close it so early. The phasing doesn’t have that area being built on until quite a bit later. Combine that with the mild outcry when the closure was announced and I suspect that’s the reason.

Meant to post this earlier...above ground construction has actually begun.
Six storey staircase has shot up on the south east corner of the site...nothing else, just an obvious stair column for the new multi storey car park.
Thrilling stuff...stay tuned for the next exciting instalment soon.

Crown Leisure who run the Golden Mile Amusements arcade are fitting out the old Woolworths/Poundland for a new arcade. Could be a replacement for Golden Mile Amusements.
