Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2023 Discussion

The fault lies totally with the British public for not supporting this and other leisure attractions. Far to easy to stay in playing on your phone, VR headset, watch a movie, etc etc. Nobody is willing to make an effort anymore as individuals or families to go out en masse and support attractions. Easier to sit and slag them off.
Drayton Manor has done very well this summer. Paultons Park consistently does well. Pleasure Beach has a bigger and arguably better ride offering than either of those parks yet constantly under-performs.

It is their responsibility to provide and market a product that is appealing enough to make people want to visit. Other parks are managing to do this, so why not Pleasure Beach?

I completely disagree. Any business needs to be able to attract customers and convince them to part with their money.

Why should I drive over 2 hours there and over 2 hours back to visit Blackpool Pleasure Beach (for example) when they have added nothing new since my last visit, and their previous major investment was a big disappointment? I would rather save my money and visit better theme parks, and yes, they are abroad.
sums up exactly whats wrong this country, why cant you just visit, enjoy, support them because you want to and its ensuring it carry's on for the next generation, instead of not going because they don't build you a new 20 million pound ride every few years

its also your responsibility to try to keep as many home grown parks alive as possible, we are the spending power, nothing can grow without us spending on/in it

I'm getting a bit sick of everyone stating "pleasure beach should do this that or other", as though anybody on here runs a business and makes it come across as very easy.

Also the nation is totally to blame for constantly wanting to go abroad and support foreign attractions by paying of hundreds of pounds and thinking that's ok. Nothing wrong with sampling different cultures, parks, but would it kill people to think , you know what I'm going to support my own country instead of paying for that cheap flight to another park, prob not, because we only think of WHAT I WANT and not the bigger picture.
People need to make an effort, as an example to go out on a Friday night and support them with group evenings out at the beach, food, couple of drinks.
The English are very lazy and nothing will change until we make a collective effort to engage more like we used to

As an aside the English only seem to like things when its really cheap, totally forgetting the cultural value these places hold, and the expense to run them. We are a nation who wants everything for nothing and sod the consequences
Just no.

Offer a decent service and people will come, it is a busy seaside resort, the market is, and has been there.
It's the publics fault, not Mandy's?
No.
I disagree completely... people need to make an effort?
The park needs to make an effort.
Go to the Beach on a Friday night, ok, but why only one month a year...you will be very bored on your own the other eleven months.
Edit,...It is the responsibility of the park to keep itself alive...it is not a charity, it is a business.
Offer a decent selection of amusements at the right price and people will come.
Put millions into a show that nobody wants to watch anymore, and people won't come.
Simple as that.
Don't blame the English, don't blame the management, don't blame the visitors, blame the owner that keeps making the actual decisions.
You can't blame the customers for not wanting the owners "vision" for the park.

Because I can choose where I wish to spend the money that I earn?

I likely will go to BPB sometime within the next year, as I will get in for free with my Europa-Park Resort Pass. I currently have zero incentive to pay to get in.
thanks for proving my point

Mandy, is that you? Good to have you on TS.

I visit Pleasure Beach, to be clear, but I've drastically reduced my number of visits this year. This is a direct result of the experience offered by Pleasure Beach being much worse than in previous years; as a consumer, I have to weigh up whether a product is worth the cost involved in visiting. If it isn't, why would I visit?

18 million on a new ride less than 10 years. ago....., the park is spotlessly clean, apart from forcing people in under duress, how exactly do you get people in, oh lets build that totally unrealistic coaster with that magic money.........just no, PEOPLE need to make an effort

"Offer a decent selection of amusements at the right price and people will come"

define what a decent selection of amusements would be acceptable

maybe people need to realise that's its not our attractions that have to change, do things differently. Maybe the population/individuals as a collective need to change, do things differently, prioritise who/what we support more considerately

This isn’t how a capitalist economy works. You’ve got it the wrong way round.

To use Icon as an example, it cost £16.25 million but they didn't get much return. A lot of this was because there was very little marketing especially compared to Wicker Man, outside Blackpool you could have been forgiven for not knowing anything was going on. Also the park didn't need to spend so much on a coaster, there are plenty of thrilling coasters on the market for £10 million and under from other manufacturers. They could (and I think should) have built a cheaper coaster, marketed it properly and saved themselves a fair amount of money.

the market isn't there, its on a cheap flight to Benidorm or else were in Europe

The rides are acceptable, though the money spent on Icon was perhaps not the wisest choice.
It would be nice if they all opened on busy days.
Lots of closed rides this summer, including the very lengthy closure of the headline water ride.
The price is wrong, as simple as that.
Forty quid or sod off, so the majority sod off.
My wife used to spend about a grand a year on the Beach in total, food, drinks, games, treats for friends kids, clothing as well, but she doesn't do rides anymore, she grew out of them.
Now, because of the current policy that even the senior park staff hate, she has not been to the Beach in three years, despite having a diamond season pass that wasn't honoured in the first year.
That's three grand lost to the Beach, because the owner knows best, and put up or shut up.
So that money now gets spent at TKMaxx behind the Tower, and 'spoons, instead of the Beach.
Mandy doesn't want my wife's money anymore, and that's fine.
But don't make out it is her fault.

...and welcome to our lovely site, nice to see a new member who is happy to tell it as they see it.

literally its impossible to see any sense with the English, so then they would have been accused of doing it on the cheap. No attraction stands a chance in this country

Two hundred thousand for airshow weekend.
Similar always for tram Sunday.
Blackpool itself has been busy all summer, it has only been the Beach that is dead...because £40 is simply too expensive for the majority of visitors.

Ooh, this is getting lively

@thunderchops can I ask you a question ?

Do you get your milk delivered from the milkman ?

If not then why not ? It's not the milkmans fault that you can buy it cheaper and more conveniently from the supermarket. You need to make the effort !! Milkmen are part of English history.

Basically that's business, whether you are a theme park owner or a dog walker , if the product isn't worth it then your business won't survive.

We all want pleasure beach to succeed, that's probably why we are all very critical when it is clearly struggling and the park keep making very questionable decisions.
