And then lose some more from refunding disgruntalled guests.
Genuine question, do they actually offer refunds / compensation or hide behind the T&C’s?

I don’t think the generic come back tomorrow for free or any Sunday half price is sufficient as if you are only there that day technically you get nothing as no-one pays full price to enter so the voucher is worthless as you get that discount anyway.

If I had paid for a day ticket today and turned up in the afternoon expecting to be able to stay on the park till 7pm then I wouldn't be leaving without a refund.

They must have had some complaints today and it's hard to see them not giving out refunds if guests complained hard enough.

Personally I'm still loving BPB this year, however that might have been temporarily put on hold if I'd been kicked out 2 hours earlier having paid for rides until 7pm.

Closing 2 hours before the ‘earliest closing time’. Really really poor show. Surely they should be going all out this season in terms of ensuring customer satisfaction. Icon or not, some people won’t come back in a hurry when they are booted out of the park 2 hours early on a bank holiday after paying their money to be there to the end if they choose to be. Completely unacceptable

They will save on power costs

No they won't, a big company like that will be on a fixed rate tariff which means they pay a lump sum for their electric supply regardless of how much they use.

It's why you see a lot of public and big business buildings lit up like xmas trees in the middle of the night, no need to turn off the lights if you're not being charged by the kilowatt.

They are not in the habit if giving refunds...come on, this is Blackpool.
I have heard so many complaints at the ticket centre...stonewall no refunds, refer to the terms and conditions...no liability for closures.
If you haven't got a legal case that would stand up in court, they will not give refunds.

Do their T&C’s state that they can close whenever they want without giving a reason, even 2 hours before their ‘earliest closing time’ ?

I think like most T& C's there is a paragraph somewhere which basically goes along the lines of "we reserve the right to do whatever we want".

It makes a mockery of any claims they may make in the big print.

EDIT: just checked and in their T&C's it mentions on more than one occasion that ride availability and the open/closing times are at the sole discretion of the pleasure beach. So in other words they are are saying they can do whatever they want !

Closing 2 hours before the advertised earliest closing time? Wow, there is no excuse for that woeful customer service! Say what you like about Towers/Merlin parks, that would never happen.

I'd love to know who is making these decisions.

:)

Whats worse?

Closing 2 ours early than advertised as in BPPB?
Opening rides 2 hours later than advertised as in ATR?

To me there is no difference between the two, and we should not put up with it. We all should complain and demand a refund where possible. Refund is not an easy option if you are a pass holder.

There is a difference. Blackpool outright shut their park 2 hours earlier than what they said would be their earliest closing time. If Alton Towers are opening rides 2 hours later than advertised then it is due to techical problems, not because they just cannot be bothered.

I fully agree that rides that are open late due to technical problems can't be helped. However when I been at ATR, the rides that open late are not broken down, they just haven't been signed off due to lack of staff due to the cuts, in my eyes this is no difference to BPPB closing early to save money.

I agree, that still is not good however I do think that there is a difference. If they've not been signed off in time then it could have been because of an issue that needed looking in to or fixing. Or of course it could be because of an issue on another ride means they tech services are late signing off the next ride on the rota. I'm unsure how exactly they go about it!

Towers' excuse it budget cuts to every department. Blackpool's is just shoddy customer service. Neither are ideal for what should be leading UK theme parks!

:)

Hmmmmm. When I return later this year for Icon I will bare in mind that there is a decent chance that the earliest possible closing time will just be brought forward on the day. Meanwhile when visiting Europa-Park, it's usually a case of wondering just how much they have extend ride close past the earliest possible closing time!

:)

I'm not a super legal expert but the unfair contract terms act 1977 might give you a case against their terms:

"A standard term is unfair 'if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations arising under the contract, to the detriment of the consumer'– Regulation 5(1). ... Contracts should be drawn up in a way that respects consumers' legitimate interests."

Terms and Conditions of Entry fall under an implied contract.

Closing early could be argued as being detrimental to the consumer.

But I'm not a lawyer, I've only used this (successfully) against a bank.
