So that's why Blackpool Pleasure Beach is making a loss, the owner is spending all the park's money on hand gel!

I imagine she has a solid gold loo. With a video screen showing hot ice performances to entertain her.

Was on the (actual) beach today with the dog, was blowing a gale but they had the Big One running.

Interesting. I thought the whole point was that if it was really windy at ground level then it is even more so at 235 feet, hence The Big One shuts. If it was ‘blowing a gale’ today WITH it running, it almost implies that they simply can’t be bothered running it at times and just use that as a ready made excuse

Direction plays a role too, but the approach to running it in the wind has changed quite considerably since I was close to that conversation, so wouldn't like to say I know all, because I don't.

Speaking of the big one I got stopped on the brake run today while they checked the wheels. Strangely it was after 5 and there was only enough for a few more trains.

I’ve heard they do this but does anyone know why they need to? Are they expecting the bloody things to come loose?

Considering they actually have come loose on at least one occasion, I think so.

As Rick said, all down to wind direction.
Mild wind from south west today, easier to deal with.
Allegedly.

Any Platinum Pass Holders on here who have used their pass for entry to one of the European parks?

Looking at maybe PortAventura and Efteling but wondered how you go about it? Cheers in advance.

Really? When did this happen?

Have to say it didn’t feel too rough at all today but it still sounds like it’s shaking itself to bits.

Can't speak for Port Aventura, but at Efteling and Liseberg just head for the customer information kiosks show them your pass and explain the situation. At Liseberg they seemed pretty understanding (probably because about 50 BPB season pass holders were visiting), and at Efteling they just took my pass to make a copy for their records and returned it to me with an entrance ticket.

Must've saved the cost of my BPB season pass with those two free entries.

Brilliant, thanks for your help mate. Always wary about the language barrier with these things and them thinking you're just a clueless tourist who wants to try and get in for nothing!

When did this happen? I don't really understand how a modern coaster wheel can come loose - they have a massive amount of redundancy built.

I was at the park today and finally got to ride the Big One for the first time this season (and they have it running well). There was a very loud squeek coming from one of the wheel assemblies when turning the corner out of the station. today - I'm assuming that is what they were checking.

The park was busier than I expected today - which was nice to see. Every ride (except Valhalla - obviously) was operating. Operations were fine too, although a number of rides were on one train. Ghost Train was back open - didn't get to ride it but I am looking forward to seeing what changes have been made.

Work on the rear facade of the Arc seems to be progressing quite quickly. They have some steel braces up - so I am assuming they are putting up the same stuff that is on top of the arcade. It looks like they have new lights up there too.

45kph from the south west if I remember correctly. If there is a good chance that the ride will go down for wind they will only have it on one train - this is so they can easily remove guests from the train. If wind gusts are above 45kph, sending and empty train around is an absolute no-no. Even weighted, there is a chance it could valley.

I used mine for Portaventura. I had pre-empted problems getting it, so I had both my season pass card and a printout clearly stating it as being a season pass benefit. 2 staff members had no clue about it whatsoever, then one went into the back to speak to a manager. I was waiting for some time but eventually they returned and gave me the free entry.

Just closing a ride because they "cant be bothered" doesnt happen. But if its down from the moment the park opens and the wind only drops near the end of the day, then possibly, if it would take too long to do the morning checks and risk of wind picking up again. But Ive been on park last year where they opened it 30 mins before close and ran it until well over an hour after close.

Yeah I think I'll certainly take a print out as back-up, do expect to face some problems tbh. Cheers

Pleasure Beach was awesome this weekend.

Big One open all day yesterday and most of today even with some fairly high winds, 2 trains on some of the coasters and a lovely atmosphere on park.

The service was great, staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Ghost Train has some amazing new scenes and lighting improvements throughout the ride, bringing out some of the UV in detail that it hasn't been seen in for years!

River Caves also has some changes and improvements to the lighting, and looks in pretty good condition inside. Audio in Angkor Wat keeps cutting out though.

Overall the most enjoyable weekend I've had at Pleasure Beach in a few years. There's a much nicer atmosphere about the place than it's had for a while.
