Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

I think lancashire been put into Tier 3 to stop people traveling down from Scotland for the weekend. As I know many Celtic and Rangers fans had booked into guest houses and hotels over the weekend so they could watch the footie in a pub.
I had hoped to have been able to go to Blackpool for a long weekend at the end of November as my daughter saw Shawn’s vlogs of the pleasure beach and the lights and wanted to go.

Very surprised that BPB and the arcades are still open. I would've thought they'd have to close as the area is in Tier 3?
Tier 3 means no socialising indoors or outdoors outside of your household/established support bubble, so regardless of whether they've moved up to tier 3 or not, it makes no difference to indoor attractions and I guess they're just going to have to rely on families turning up rather than friendship groups.

Yup the baseline for Tier 3 is pubs and bars to close unless serving food. It's important to note tier 3 is nothing like the full lockdown which we saw earlier in the year. Areas then have additional restrictions custom to their area depending on what either national or local government deem as necessary. For Lancashire this is:
  • Casinos
  • Bingo Halls
  • Betting shops and adult gaming centres
  • Soft Play Areas
  • Car Boot Sales
As the arcades at BPB are not adult gaming centres and children are permitted, they are allowed to remain open.

It's because they're classed as an outdoor attraction.

It's not because they're an outdoor attraction. As above, all businesses that are allowed to open under national restrictions are permitted to remain open with the exception of pubs that don't serve food, bars (national Tier 3 restriction) and any additional local restrictions. In Lancashire's case that's the extras I quoted above.

BPB mentioning that they're an outdoor attraction is to emphasise that mixed households can visit , this is separate to them being allowed to remain open.

Hang on, I thought households couldn't mix indoors nor outdoors in tier 3?
You may continue to see friends and family you do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) in groups of 6 or less in certain outdoor public spaces, such as:
  • parks, beaches, countryside, forests
  • public gardens (whether or not you pay to enter them), allotments
  • outdoor sports courts and facilities, and playgrounds
------

Venues following COVID-secure guidance can host more people in total, but no one must mix indoors or in most public outdoor venues with anyone who they do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with). This includes in:
  • pubs and restaurants, where they are permitted to open
  • leisure and entertainment venues
  • places of worship

Remember when tier restrictions were supposed to make things simpler . BPB isn't a public outdoor space as you have to pay money to enter, so yes you must only visit with your own household/support bubble if you live on your own:

(4) Subject to sub-paragraph (5), a place satisfies the conditions in this sub-paragraph if it is a public outdoor place, and
(a) no payment is required by any member of the public to access that place, or
(b) the place falls within one of the following categories—
(i) outdoor sports grounds or sports facilities;
(ii) botanical gardens;
(iii) gardens or grounds of a castle, stately home or historic house.

Don't think the Chinese Puzzle Maze counts as a botanical garden...

Gets a bit messy doesnt it.
I will be doing the Beach on Tuesday afternoon, as I often do, and I am in the area, and close to the coast on business...but I will not be saying hello to anyone I know, due to the risk of a thousand pound fine.
Make that a melon and prawn salad with my pint please.
And a portion of chips.

You can talk to people... from a distance. :p
Not the same though I know. :(

This is confusing.....

It can be simplified.

Tier 1 (medium risk) carry on with rule of six indoors and out
Tier 2 (high risk) do not meet people not in your household/bubble indoors, rule of six outdoors.
Tier 3 (very high risk) do not meet people not in your household/bubble at all.

As Craig points out, in a high risk area it is possible to meet others outdoors in a garden/park or similar but to be honest, its probably safer/easier just to not see anyone outside your household if you are in a high risk area.

Thanks so BPB is allowed to remain open because it doesn't fall under the certain category!

Very few places need to close due to the restrictions of the new tiers, only bars without food.
What changes is whether the public can meet friends at the venue or if they can only go with their household/bubble.

No park needs to close with the changes in England, but depending if it is tier 2 or 3 decides who you can visit with.

But people are strongly advised to avoid all but essential travel into higher rated areas...
I'm inside the three area, and working locally, so I'm allowed a coaster in the rain tomorrow!
Blackpool is dead apparently.

After moving in the summer I am still digging through lots of boxes of coaster stuff, some of which I haven't looked at for years. I just came across the 'Through the Camera of Lichfield' book, published in 1989. Such a great collection of photos, certainly incredibly photogenic location in a great era.

Also, on the last page there's a great photo of WGT & Mrs LDT sat together on the back car of the monorail.

Some awesome photos in that book. I recall it being quite expensive at the time, at least for a young lad. I picked one up then saw the price and put it back. I didn’t know at the time but my Mum must’ve spotted me drooling over it and ordered me one by mail order for that Christmas. I still keep it in the original envelope it came in.

I even bought a spare copy a few years ago, so I could have a couple of my favourites framed (Rev & Dipper lit up at night. That really was a great era for him to photograph. Not long after that, Space Tower was removed to make way for The Big One.

A small number of prints for this have been framed and sold on the park in recent years, but they are not the best photos from the book and I don’t they they are very good copies either, certainly not compared to my originals from the book itself which are up on my wall
