CBeebies Land

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

From the pictures on Towers Nerd Live.

Arguably the best addition I have seen to the towers, probably, 'ever'.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

So glad the BBC has cracked the whip! Looks like it has been finished to a very high standard, well done to all those involved at the Merlin Studios!

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

Looking at reviews and Twitter and Towers Nerd Live etc. it looks like we have a truly brilliant addition here. Merlin seems to have finally got something pretty much perfect; a new coaster in 2015 would elevate this project to perhaps even perfection, judging by the initial comments and pictures I have seen? Eagerly awaiting some views from TowersStreet members later on.

From he pictures Postman Pat looks fantastic.

The rest i'm afraid looks a bit cheap and garish.

It's perfectly on brand with Cbeebies though. Kids love this, and it's refreshed and updated an area whose appeal was undoubtedly faltering with new additions at other parks (Thomas Land, Peppa Pig World). Old McDonalds Farm, forgetting everyone's memories, was tired and not in keeping with paying £40+ to get to see it.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

Have to agree with Chris. Postman Pat looks great... the rest not so much.

The area will be a success either way so who cares.

Oh yeah I totally agree - the farm was tired and they could not have chosen a better IP than CBeebies.

Sadly for the most part all they have done is painted everything that was already there is neon paints and stuck on some cardboard cutouts. The 'numtums merry go round' looks especially awful.

Postman Pat looks really fun though, I especially like the cottage with smoking chimneys and the sheep! The science lab looks like a pretty decent addition as well.

On the whole though, a mediocre and paint by-the-numbers effort. Zero creativity.

Really? See I think Pat isn't really up there. It's probably due to the fact you know pat and not the other attractions?

In my personal opinion, Get Set Go looks awesome, Mr Blooms looks like great fun (with smoking composter thing if you're interested in smoke) and Charlie and Lola is quite creative!

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

At least it isn't as bad as Angry Birds Land.

We have to be grateful for small mercy's.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

Whaaaat??! I don't understand why people are complaining. It looks fantastic, not too intellectual for three year olds, but not too basic that it looks cheap. I think this is one of their best themed areas! :D

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

Looks fantastic from what I'm seeing on TN Live and the TS Facebook page.

It might be bright and garish but it fits the brand of CBeebies perfectly and appears to have lots of nice little theming set pieces - I like blobs in the pond with the snorkel and shark fin!

The attractions look to be stimulating for young kids and look great for the target audience. I also like the fact that there is roaming entertainment but we will soon see if that lasts!

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

It looks good from the look over the fence I got yesterday.
My daughter even said hello to justin in makaton.
Justin even came to the fence to say hello and have photos with park visitors.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

It looks pretty much how I expected to be honest. Some of the 2D bits are fine, some aren't, some nice touches, some bits that are a bit poor, but overall, it's nice. Kids will absolutely love it and that's all that matters.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

Some of it's nice and some of it isn't.

Get Set Go is fine, Pat's mostly acceptable, Bish Bash is virtually the same except for different stickers and colours, the cafe was nice and the new options are very much welcome, anything is better than the Dung Heap and I've heard that the Allotment is good too. The uniforms all looked good and it's nice to see more effort on proper costumes.

Charlie and Lola's exterior is pixelated and looks like it won't last longer than a few months, In the Night Garden looks just as sad and static as it did before the retheme, the show area has a huge painted metal wall rather than something more attractive to stop you from seeing the staff entrance / exit road behind, and the Sensory Garden is probably the most pitiful thing I've ever seen (nothing at all like how a proper sensory garden should be, and it's obvious why next to no child cared about it).

I'll have to have a look at the bits I missed next time, but generally the area is okay. Like with most Merlin attractions, there are a few features which let it down and I can't judge an area without taking those aspects into consideration, unfortunately.

No it's not aimed at me, but that doesn't stop me from liking all kinds of attractions and it's not actually that difficult to look at things from the perspective of the type of guest an attraction is aimed at. It's easy to see what the children liked, what adults liked and what I liked when I was that age, so I don't think anyone ought to be worried about posting their real opinions on the area so long as they're fair.

:)

Well surprised at some of the negative opinions in here.... Let's just say I deeply disagree with BigAl.

The area is possibly one of the best things to come to Towers in a long time, it's certainly one of the most though out attractions since Sharkbait Reef. So to take each attraction in turn and why I disagree with the above.

Get Set Go - looks really nice, it is obviously squirrel nutty but a few extra cars have been resurrected and the station given a colourful retheme. The tunnel now has quite a bit of theming in it, and I like the fun things the blobs are doing around the area. Overall an improvement.

Sensory Garden - is effectively an area rather than an attraction, I think those who don't like it may not fully understand the purpose of a sensory GARDEN, which is to offer lots of flowers and plants with different textures and scents to stimulate the senses. There could be a few extra noise inducing items in here but overall it's a nice little relaxing area and kids seemed to love it.

Postman Pat - lovely area, theming is really very good, some nice touches like smoke coming out of the chimneys and some cool features. It's the most obviously interesting ride in the area so not going to go on too much.

Nina - Looks great, very small.

Num Tums - possibly the least inspiring thing in the area, still mostly pleasant.

Justin's House - mostly berry bish bash, not much change

In the night garden - don't fully understand BigAl's comment about static scenery, seemed to be mostly moving theming elements such as the train and the weird creature things peeking out of various areas. Kids seemed to love it, could maybe do with a few extra bits but mostly really good.

Tom Fu - looks really good, but not much could have looked worse than dung heap. Still it's a great play area and kids again adored it.

Big Fun Show Area - the acoustic fence is painted purple with graphics around it. It's not a Disney extravaganza but it's pleasant enough and it works well as outside the area you can't hear the show so it's doing it's job. The stage tent is nice and the big screens is a great way to change scenes. The toilets look nice and the tents compliment the area for the meet and greets. The shows had kids entertained (and the adults). Overall really great area that will be great in the sun.

Mr Blooms - dare I say it magical, fantastically themed, interactive and pretty. Mixes a show with an attraction. Really good ride but hard to describe.

Charlie and Lola - I was not impressed with the pictures if this but in person it's quite nice. It's not particularly pixilated but I would have maybe used more 2D lamination, the inside has loads for kids to do. Including some interesting interactive elements.

Street ents - loads of it and very well done, Postman Pat is really good (nod to pippin) and zinzillas travel through the area before the show.

Overall theming - it's not just painted farm, it's vibrant but there is detail and lots of thought with a few exceptions. The place seems much more alive than it used to and the kids seemed to love it.

Conclusion - I have lost a lot of faith in Towers over the last few years but CBeebies is a great addition and one of the best themed new installations in years. It's hard not to miss the subtlety of the farm but CBeebies is a different egg.

Well I have to say I was very impressed from the area. In person it looks far better than any photos and videos. They really don't do it justice at all.

Tree Fu Tom is a huge improvement on the Dung Heap, and it's changed beyond belief.

Mr Bloom's Allotment is just wonderful. The theming is very well executed, and it's a very cute and unique attraction which the kids seemed to love. It's an interesting concept, which could have very easily gone wrong, but they pulled it off brilliantly. For me this was perhaps the highlight of the new attractions. There are some problems with the video system, but during my run through we were joined by several members of senior park management, all of which noticed this issue and said it needed to be sorted, so they are clearly aware of its failings. One suggestion I would make would be to add some form of canopy or shelter over the batching area. With it being totally exposed, and a 5 minute or more wait you can get rather damp and cold, which I'm sure is not going to go down well with the children.

In The Night Garden, again, is a positive improvement. It looks so much fresher and more welcoming than Riverbank ever did, and virtually every scene bar perhaps 1 had some basic form of animation. There is one bit after the first scene which is a little dead, and something would be nice here (Even just some plants or flowers). Again though, on the whole it's another great ride, which seemed very popular with the kids.

Postman Pat is an interesting one. It's clearly the ride which has seen the most change, and the station is a bit odd. The theming around the ride is all lovely 3D sets though, which stay true to the show, featuring many of its classic characters. There do seem to be some teething issues with the ride system, but it is still early days yet. Nothing major, but it does appear to stack a bit when it could easily be on and offloading. There's also a lovely little touch where children can buy pre-stamped postcards from the shop, write an address and message, and post these at the Greendale Post Office to be delivered to wherever they say (No doubt intended to be done by Pat himself). It's these sort of magical little details which make the area so lovely. I heard something about the postcards being a pound each, which considering a Royal Mail 1st class stamp is, what, 60p odd (?) now I'd say it's good value, when you think that there's a nice postcard in that too.

Nina's lab again is a nice little interactive exhibit for the kids, with plenty of hands on activities for them to learn about their senses through.

Get Set Go looks great, and really brings a bit of life into the area, thanks to its multicolored vehicles.

Big Fun Show Time whatever it's called is just fantastic. It's such a vast, open space, with plenty of deckchairs, benches, and covered areas. I can see this being a very popular location in the summer months, and it provides some nice breathing space from the rest of the area. Looking at the itinerary it seems that it's more or less non stop shows throughout the day, and there are the little meet and greet tents too. I can imagine families could spend an hour in there alone, and the potential for the space as a venue at park events like Scarefest and Fireworks is pretty huge.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to look around the Sensory Garden, which is a shame as it was perhaps the attraction I was most interested to see develop. However, from which bits I could glimpse from outside it looks to be to a similar standard.

So yes, for me all in all it's a very welcome development which the park has needed for a very long time. It's certainly not just an old area with an IP stuck on. For me personally it's changed beyond belief. I don't feel so sad about the farm leaving now, as it has been given a very suitable replacement. There are a couple of little touches I would make if it was me, but there's nothing detrimental which time won't iron out. Good job to Towers! They've really pulled it off :D

Oh, and the street entertainment? Just wow! I really hope at least some of these stay, as they really bring the area to life and make it a fun place to be (Shoutout to the guys on the Pro Jump stilts!). If a couple of these acts could take to Towers Street at the beginning and end of the day it would perfectly compliment what is there. Another step in the right direction for the Entertainments team!

I was very skeptical when I entered, honestly having low expectations. For the first time in what feels like an absolute age, Towers have managed to exceed them.

CBeebies Land on the whole feels fresh and fun, two main priorities an area aimed at children should desire to meet. The area does this exceptionally well, particularly in the entertainment department I thought. The constant stream of staff members doing something to entertain, from juggling to blowing large bubbles gives the area a very vibrant and lively feeling.

The Zing-Zillas vehicle was a surprising and also welcome addition in my eyes. A particular highlight was Postman Pat's van driving around the area. However it was disappointing it wasn't a large version in order to accommodate an actor in the driver's seat for full interaction with guests, but it's certainly just one of the continuous improvement that seems to consistently occur in the entertainments department as of present.

From the get go, the obvious absence of Squirrel Nutty did play on the heartstrings a little, but Get Set Go is a noble and positive attempt to keep the ride consistent with the area. Considering it plays the part of the headline attraction and also characters in the form of the CBeebies bugs, it actually has an unnoticeable yet large reputation to uphold in the area. For the most part, it does this to a certain extent. I wasn't the largest fan with one or two segments of the ride [particularly the whole refueling concept, so close to the end of the ride], but I lack any reasons on the whole to slate it.

My biggest irritation was probably In The Night Garden. The tiny addition to the queue line in the form of an indoor structure is such a wasted potential, and the animatronics didn't feel as or seem as lively as the rest of the area. Our boat's misinterpretation of several of the characters name was amusing however.

Tree Fu Tom is quite possibly one of the biggest highlights for me. Admittedly, it was never going to be one of the most difficult tasks known to man to produce a much more substantial product than the Dungheap, but this new play area is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. It's vastly more colourful and appealing. Being able to explore it during the exclusive time in the area was certainly a treat, and I adore the centerpiece of the attraction.

Finally, the Big Fun Show Time arena. Very appealing to children and I imagine will also suit the needs of parents come the busier period in the summer. It feels perfectly spacious enough to accommodate a wide spectrum of visitors through the use of the character tents combined with their individual activities, as well as plethora of seating options I imagine are designed for the parents. This structure will allow parents to safely watch their kids interact and watch the range of shows without having to be stood with them which makes the area feel much safer and adds to such a pleasant atmosphere.

I didn't get to experience the area fully yet, but I imagine I will at some point. From what I saw today this is certainly a step in the right direction for Towers. It isn't perfect and I imagine the majority of positive VIBES from the area stem from the BBC's input rather than Merlin's creative team, but if they can take this on board and apply it to future products, then the future for Alton Towers is certainly looking somewhat brighter.
