Cedar Point: General Discussion

I'm quite glad it doesn't get pulled off here. It's a novelty in the States that wears thin very quickly when you're subjected to it day-after-day.

It's bad enough when you're riding Banshee and they thank you for riding Raptor; or riding i305 and they thank you for riding Maverick. But Nemesis Inferno whilst riding Nemesis? I couldn't bear it.

Knightmare had one, so memorable i forgot it in seconds, and you had to cheer on the way out of the station, or the nice man wouldn't press the button.
Didn't last long though.
 
I found that the ride hosts at Cedar Point were far more enthusiastic when it came to ride annoucements than the hosts at most other US parks.

One execption, the Mystery Mine crew at Dollywood, phenomenal!
 
All the station announcers seemed to be Eastern European students when I was there and they were very good!

Thorpe used to have some very witty ride ops on the microphones, maybe Merlin now want a more serious approach to the job.
 
Vampire used to have the personalised announcement thing. But it vastly depended on the staff member since some loved the sound of their voice.

It's less irritating than the applause EVERY SINGLE RIDE.
 
If season passes are valid for the entirety of 2021 then I suspect that they are expecting the 2020 season to be a near or complete write off.

Still, a good and sensible gesture!
 
I’d purchased two passes for our trip over in early June. Obviously disappointed not to be going and hopeful to move it to next year. But will have to see how things pan out. Just need to look at cancelling Breakers now and hope BA play ball with a refund on flights.

Ditto. Hopefully i still manage to get out late this year then planning to use my extension to do Knott's next year if able.

Let's see if Six Flags (unlikely lol) and SDC who I also got season passes for follow up too
 
Cancelled hotel Breakers a week or so, full refund and great customer service. Pity the same can't be said for BA.

Very few airlines are going to offer refunds in advance of the flight date. They need to manage their cash flow and delaying refunds in this way allows them to do that. They’re perfectly within their right to do so unfortunately.

By way of example, Easyjet have over £3bn cash, they’ve grounded all flights indefinitely, however my flight in two weeks is apparently still going. I’m not going to be able to start the process of getting my money back until they cancel, so they won’t cancel until the last minute so they can hold onto that money for as long as they can.
 
Cedar fair are scalling back investments across 2020 and 2021 to the tune of about 100m dollars. All non essential projects are to be pushed back or cancelled. I think we will see this an awful lot across every TP operator.

The rumoured 2021 Cedar Point coaster will surely be on the chopping block. They can definitely live without it considering their line up is second to none anyway. Shame though.

Can't see many major rides being built in Europe either for a while unless they are already under construction.

Interestingly, Cedar Fair are still investing $85-100m into the chain in 2021, compared with $190m in a regular year. Also, I watched an Amusement Insiders video that speculated that they are probably still going to press ahead with Cedar Point's 2021 coaster, and they're also pressing on with Kings Dominion's 2021 S&S Free Spin.

I don't think every park operator will be cutting back in the way that you'd necessarily expect; Universal, for example, has said that they are pressing ahead with all planned construction projects, including Epic Universe that is due to open in 2023.
 
I suppose it'll depend on what had already been ordered and paid for by the companies at this time. Let's not forget this will also hamper the manufacturers as well with them not being able to create the tracks etc to make delivery dates.

Universal and Disney aren't the norm though Matt as the Theme park branch to their business isn't the big money earner as the other branches are. They aren't really comparable to merlin, six flags, cedar fair etc.
 
There are bound to be implications on new rides and attractions at theme parks. I think you'll see a lot of 2021/2022 investments either scaled back, pushed back or cancelled. 2020 additions will be pushed whenever parks are able to re-open. It is very uncertain times for theme parks and major investments at parks that might not be financially stable will be seen as too big of a risk for now.

I would imagine Cedar Fair will want to continue with Cedar Point's investment though, even if it is delayed slightly.
