Chessington World of Adventures Resort

On the Accesso booking page for Chessington Zoo tickets, they appear to be indicating that they're going to do temperature checks before parking.

If that's the case, I'm sure the locals - and guests - will enjoy the presumably even worse than normal traffic jam along Leatherhead Road.

Please be aware that all guests are required to join one main queue for temperature checking before being directed to parking bays. Guests requiring disabled parking bays will be directed by a host on arrival to explorer carpark to the correct parking bays and temperature

Poses a few questions:
  • Will they temperature check everybody in the vehicle?
    • Will they just lean through windows or get everybody out the car? I'm thinking of some people carriers etc with limited windows in the rear.
  • Will they temperature check at the park entrance again? Not everybody arrives by car so they'd need to check everybody again at the park entrance.

It looks like a park that closed down about 3 years ago and is now finally being demolished.

I’m sure they’ll attempt to do something to tidy it up (most likely a flat coat of paint), but the fact it’s been allowed to get into that state in the first place says all really :confused1:

Not forgetting all the vloggers will have been camped out for today.

That temperature check while in the car is strange, obviously they don’t want any risk to others but it also leaves the temperature check open to manipulation if someone was feeling warmer than usual, switch the aircon on cold will lower your temperature considerably.

Given Towers have been admitting people as 'healthy' with temperatures that would indicate extreme hypothermia, I suspect these temperature checks are doing very little to detect potentially sick people.

With reduced capacity you’ll see a lot of days sold out.
But it’s surely still a promising sign that people do want to visit? While reduced, the park’s capacity still won’t be an insignificant number, surely? I’m not sure how zoos are doing things, but most parks seem to be doing 25-50% capacity.

Wouldn’t say it’s over promising it’s probably the same amount that would normally attend. I’d say Chessington is smaller then towers so I have no idea of attendances but I’d imagine it would be about 3-4K only during the limited capacity.

I meant that it’s surely promising in terms of people not being put off, and do bear in mind that the theme park isn’t open yet.

I wouldn’t base any real idea of demand on day 1. That will be full of die hard fans and vloggers.

Once they have been and gone it’s the numbers they get in the next few weeks that will give a better indication of demand from the wider public.

Apparently the park has had to reduce figures by 50%: https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1...pen-reopening-chessington-world-of-adventures

Considering Chessington’s capacity is apparently 16,000, that would in theory let 8,000 in, however I’m not sure if this is reduced due to the rides not being open.

By this metric of 50% capacity, that would also mean that Alton could potentially admit 14,000 and Thorpe 7,000.

I would expect them to start capacity low so they can monitor how effective changes are / how well the public behave with self distancing etc.

If Alton can admit 14,000 - they will be fine for most days of the season. All depends on whether they can, as with 14,000 at ATR - there would be several queues over 30 minutes and, with social distancing in place and increased cleaning it could fast become a nightmare. To be honest, 8,000 at Chessington will not feel quiet, given the capacity of their rides.

8'000 was once a normal weekend figure. Not too busy but not dead either.

Wouldn't expect parks to be completely dead, especially when people are desperate to get outside.
