Chessington World of Adventures Resort

I guess I would just expect almost any waterpark to have numerous water slides, seeing as they are the main feature of waterparks. Slides that go outside of the main waterpark building. Nothing of the sort here. I'm not too bothered as I'm not likely to ever want to go.
 
Just looks like a well themed water haven to be honest, which is fine for what it is. I'll go just to chillax with a drink, get some food, go for a swim and do the lazy river, but fully expecting to be finished in there within an hour or 90 minutes. That being said though, Chessington are definitely crying out for a water park that has enough variety for families with older children like the slides in Splash Landings. I don't buy into the lack of space argument, there's room for two decent slides if they used the space wisely.

I remember the good old days when the Chessington Hotel was a Holiday Inn. Every time I stayed I used the pool and it was nice and relaxing. Then one day Merlin ripped out part of the bar to install the Savannah Splash Pool... I tried the pool a couple of times subsequently but it was always packed. You couldn't swim properly anymore as there were kids jumping in from all sides and people just messing about across the whole width of the pool. There was not even a dedicated lane for people who wanted to use the swimming pool to, you know, swim. Just a melee.

If this water park is going to be oversubscribed anything like the Savannah Splash Pool then it will be anything but "chillaxing".

That's one reason why I go to Chessington outside of the peak season.

The plans label a ‘spa area’ within the Waterpark, unless they are using a different definition of ‘Spa’ I’m not sure how that is going to work. Will be the usual chaos and noise from the Waterpark, not particularly relaxing.

They would be better off going down the same route as Alton Towers did and converting the existing hotel pool area into a separate Spa.

It will be some hot tubs like the Alton Towers waterpark, under 8s won’t be allowed in the hot water but it won’t be quiet. In this context I think spa just means jacuzzi hot tub.

Off topic but didn't Alton Towers make Volcano Springs cooler so under 8s could actually go in...? I'm sure last time I was there the sign had gone and it was cooler than I remember

It was lovely and warm earlier in the year, but not as warm as what I would call a proper "hot tub". More like a lukewarm bath with no bubbles (not that my usual bath has bubbles in it). Some kids came in and out (and, frankly, why shouldn't they in a family waterpark?) but few stayed for long as sitting in warm water is boring for kids I'd imagine?

No sign for No Under 8's that I noticed (although it could still be there I just didn't notice it). The irony is that under 8's would generally not be roaming around the place on their own, whereas as the older ones would. Not long now and I can enjoy sending the kids off to queue for the Master Blaster on their own whilst I sit in warm water listening to the other half talking about boring things. And boy oh boy does she talk about boring things. Still love her though.
 
The age restrictions on proper hot tubs (water over 35) is because young children cannot regulate their body temperature properly. So even at a family attraction there is a good safety reason for it.
I was wrong saying under 8 and it’s actually under 5 that can’t go in water that hot.
But Alton Towers state their hot tubs are 34-35 so not sure if the younger children are still an issue or not. They might have reduced the temperature compared to 10 years ago.

As above, its a charge for driving a high polluting vehicles, not just for coming into the area. Most petrol cars are not affected.
 
To expand on the above posts, the following screenshot from gov.uk states which cars will and won't be affected:

In short, it's not just a tax on driving into Greater London
