I'm hoping it is a conscious strategy to not focus solely on the one big new thing.

Chessington clearly anticipate a huge uplift in visitor numbers this year, wowing them with the whole park not just one area should make for a much better long term impact of investment. Would be great to see a park wide spruce up alongside every major new investment.

I think Merlin are spending on refreshing their parks, Towers are using the money to replace Nemesis and refreshing the haunted house. There has been other TLC done however (re-thatching Marauders roof for example).

From a pure park perspective Merlin do seem to be doing some good stuff with their parks, it’s just food and accommodation which still seems to be sliding.
 
It'd have an incredibly short ride time though, if they'd used the same track length to make a full circuit coaster. And there would be other costs in terms of buying a second train, having transfer track to store the spare train on etc. The costs of doing that would probably be as much, if not more, than a couple of children's flat rides from SBF Visa. The maintenance around the park is fantastic this year, but they're clearly working on a tight budget for this new area. Of course, you could argue that the mistake was going for B&M, who produce well engineered rides, but the track and trains are expensive.
 
I don't know the stats but I'd guess this is on a considerably smaller plot of land than the ride in Germany.

I think it's fairly clear now why they made this a shuttle coaster. A full circuit Wingrider would have only been able to run 1 train anyway. There's no room for 3 block sections (the minimum for 2 train operation). But a shuttle coaster at least let them double the length.

Of course a more compact coaster design would have allowed for something that could fit more track into the compact space, but I guess they wanted a Wingrider at Chessington, and this was the largest expansion location available.
 
With the exception of Nemesis re-track all of Merlin’s B&M projects are these “family concept” options that B&M have never done before.

So you have the smaller family aimed wing riders for Lego and a combination of family wing and shuttle coaster (something B&M have never done before) at Chessie.

The more and more you look at it the more you get the feeling Merlin have a good deal on these projects as it’s letting B&M showcase the concept (both family focused rides and shuttle capabilities). So it would surprise me if they have just been given the concepts B&M wanted to demonstrate and then picked the parks they went in.

Sounds like corporate nonsense-speak. Not saying that the floor looks bad though.
 
Perhaps it’s just difficult to tell scale, but I am surprised those air gates are as low as they are. Considering the train travels through the station at speed, generally you would get higher airgates that come up to chin level similar to Rita, Stealth and Scorpion Express.

Rides with lower air gates such as RMT can’t fill the bays before the ride has passed through the station at speed these days.

Hopefully the disabled access will be similar to Swarm, with the ambulant disabled queue merging with main and Fastrack before it all splits into the left and right side.
 
I don't see having people in the bays as an issue - you'll be a lot further from the train than on the likes of RMT.

Looks to be quite a lot of show lighting in there, will be interesting to see what they do with it all
