Chessington World of Adventures Resort

No, what you actually said was, and I quote, "The level of investment at Chessington at the same time other Merlin parks are cutting left right and centre is very interesting,".

There was no mention of single / multiple investments, or Minecraft there. You simple stated that it was interesting investments were being cut at other parks when Chessington was getting high levels of investment.

I simply pointed out that was not the case and told you why.

Come on, mate, I corrected you on something I thought was false, you then go and try to move the goal posts to try mold what you said.

Are you ok?

Minecraft is potentially the single biggest investment ever at a theme park in the UK.

Are you ok?

I am fine. Thanks for asking 🙂.

I am specifically referring to the bit I quoted. Even with the Minecraft bit included in the quote, the way it was written makes it sound like investment is being cut at other parks, irrespective of it being single / multiple or whatever investments. That's the point I was making.

Glad to hear :)

You even quoted the bit you claimed I didn’t say originally though.

But I digress as this isn’t very productive for anyone I’m sure! Sorry if my original point wasn’t clear. I think whilst all the parks are investing, they are making far more notable cuts, be it rides, operating hours, entertainment etc whilst at the same time Chessington look to be making Merlin’s biggest ever investment in a single project (alongside other notable park investments). To me it looks to be the portfolio priority.

I agree - and disagree.

Chessington getting new areas/rides make it look like it’s getting more investment.

In reality - it’s probably similar levels to Alton. Just Alton have refurbished.

And yes Minecraft will be a huge spend.
But equally an additional flat and Horizontal will be huge

The suffering park is Thorpe

Thorpe "suffering" given they had Hyperia last year is certainly a take.

Granted beforehand they had zero idea as what to do after the deemed failure of Swarm and the definitive failures of Ghost Train.
Hyperia yes but that was long overdue.

And plans are very scarce to say the least

Whilst it may be easy to say that Thorpe are the suffering park, I think there's a good possibility that we'll get planning applications and/or consultations for new rides and attractions this year for the next few years.

If there is a GDO in place, it could be that the park can simply install new things such as flats without planning permission up to a certain height (could be 25m?). This could work for family rides and ones where they're not as high.

Their big investments tend to be a year following Chessington so I can imagine we'll get something not too far in the horizon.

Speaking of Chessington, Project Play would be sort of like a medium investment whilst Project Refresh and Renew is certainly a large investment.

I'm half thinking that Project Pivot's delays might be delaying the plans that could be in the pipeline.

With Hyperia being a huge success despite the downtime, I'd like to think Thorpe Park are going to want to follow this up sooner rather than later.

Thorpe does have plans, albeit not as big as those at Chessington or Alton currently. They’re doing the stage on the beach, and there were also utterances of a permanent hotel with concept images released at the end of last year.

I’ve also heard continual rumours of them replacing Slammer with a new flat ride at some point.

I thought there was planning permission filed for the hotels?

There could well have been. I definitely remember official concept images for a permanent hotel at Thorpe being released at the end of last year, either way.
I am not sure whether planning permission has been requested, the announcement mentions it but not sure, here was the original post:

Was the Vampire floor lowered during the 2000- whatever vekoma refurb to accommodate for the new trains?

Look how tiny Marcel looks compared to everyone else! I don’t think it would be possible to get this angle without the floor being higher than it is now - it does make sense now I think about it, it is peculiar how you slope down, do a 180 and then slope down a tiny bit more…

Also, has anyone else noticed how massive the “entrance portal” building into Transylvania is? It’s really big but no one ever talks about it. It’s a shame we don’t get theming now to that level that lasts that long.

The floor was lowered as the current trains are taller (deeper?) than the originals. For years I'd assumed that the reason the gates don't line up with the trains was because they were designed for the original Arrow trains but it turns out that Vekoma just hadn't figured out how to make loading gates that are equally spaced.

According to the now-defunct Coaster Kingdom, , the park seemingly only realised at the last minute that they'd have to lower the ground level in several places around the ride, from their description it sounded like it was done on the cheap and with minimal attention to presentation.

Seen a few people saying Mandrill Mayhem is less rattily now - I never really noticed it to be honest

Sad to see like Legoland they have cut right back on the entertainment - My kids loved the shows. I assume this wasn't originally part of the long term plan as they only just renovated the big stage last year.

I'm nostalgic for minecraft so I'm looking forward to this new land if it is themed to the game but how much longer will the brand be relevant for after the film releases? Also I think it's a pity that Chessington is going down the IP route because if play is Paw patrol like I've been hearing there'll be 3 IP land plus the Gruffao attractions and Elmer.
