Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Fury been like that for months. It goes up usual speed but at the crest it slows for 2-3 seconds then launches. It hits the block bar as it comes down which releases the spinning action
This was definitely slower the whole way up, rather than just at the top. Was slightly weird to not be going up so fast.

Fair enough, well I guess most people are rather upset that Alton Towers is no longer the favourite child of the Merlin group :p .

There isn’t a “favourite child” of the group, that’s the point, you are putting an emotional slant on the decisions Merlin make which doesn’t exist.

Don’t think it’s anything to be upset about either, personally I would rather Merlin makes the best out of all its parks, I don’t need them to have favourites, I want them to maximise all of them.

I do wonder if there might be a new policy here, because if three adults are to be allowed to ride (with or without a child) they can do so only if the weight limit isn't exceeded. Three average-to-large adults will generally exceed the weight limit so perhaps this new policy is to reduce the embarrassment of telling people they're too heavy - or possibly sparing the staff from confrontation by groups that are required to split up.

Still though it is very frustrating to see cars being sent half empty when you know you could have been batched with another group. If this policy is retained on peak days that's going to result in horrendously long waits and even more angry visitors.
I believe that the weight limit where they couldn't run a full train of 4 adults has been a thing for a very long time and is consistent even on peak days.

It's hardly a surprise though, and doesn't take a genius to see where the next major developments might be.

Land of the Tiger & Trail of the Kings were both earmarked as potential Minecraft sites so both areas are clearly not in the long term plans in their current guises.

Whilst not exactly out of the blue, this news still leaves the park with yet more empty spaces in what was already a very thin line-up this season.

The hole in the middle of Trail of the Kings seems relatively easy to fill, repurposing the lion enclosure for something else can probably be done pretty quickly. Land of the Tiger on the other hand just became totally redundant. A dead-end area at the end of a long walk past empty enclosures to a ride themed to but no longer featuring any actual Tigers - if it wasn't for the fact that the park already has 2 areas under construction I'd say they should just close Land of the Tiger entirely too.

Land of the Tiger must surely be on the chopping block in the not too distant future.

The very selling point of the land is now gone; what’s the point of the tiger theme continuing for much longer without the tigers?

It might not surprise me if the Minecraft could be extended to Land of the Tiger

Although I'd anticipate a planning application coming for removal of the enclosures anyway.

My other bit of random speculation is, could the site of Samurai, Peeking Heights etc. be where they're looking to put their spare Dodgems and Wave Swinger if that's not got plans already?

I suspect the area and ride will close at the end of the season.
Potentially although the Log Flume itself is very popular and the only water ride at Chessington.

There's been creators speculating that but I think for the moment, a retheme is more likely than complete removal as of right now. Even if Tiger Rock operates with no tigers next season and then closes in September for a Minecraft refresh.

I would ask, though; how likely is it, in reality, that a 38 year old ride, and a 38 year old ride of a type that Merlin are increasingly trying to distance themselves from (unrestrained water rides), is going to be lavishly rethemed, particularly into part of what could well become Chessington’s headline draw?

Tuk Tuk Turmoil wasn't retained. Monkey Swinger is sat in the car park
The planning application for the area stated that both Monkey Swinger and Tuk Tuk Turmoil are being put in storage until a new suitable location can be found.

For Tiger Rock, this is a ride that has been refurbished not that long ago so definitely think there is still some life left in it.

I don't think an immediate closure is going to necessarily happen although it could. I'd have thought Trial of the Kings would close and be redeveloped first. With a Minecraft retheme, I'd say that would temporarily keep it going for a few more years before a redevelopment does happen.

I'd say that bringing in River Rafts does contradict the approach of distancing themselves from unrestrained water rides slightly so it seems they're somewhat open to having a water ride at the parks.

With the flume rides particularly, newer models such as the ones from Intamin offer lapbars which are used on the likes of Chiapas and Biberburg (FamilyPark) so there is a chance that could happen at one of their parks in the future.
